I'm not really familiar with AotS. Is it known to be a game that favours AMD cards over Nvidia?

Zen looks a bit meh - hopefully it'll mean decent gaming on cheap ultrabooks.

I reckon RX 480 will be quite a cool running chip. A flip on the last generation.

    Oooh new gen wasn't Zen.

Hugely, however it's potentially a good point in AMD's favour as it looks like the way the industry is going.

Yeah, that was a bit of an anti-climax alright. And Lisa wasn't even wearing a leather jacket. Pfft.

So putting in a z97 Mobo and i5 4690 tonight, will windows need to be re installed or will it install itself? I'm rocking windows 10 atm and don't have a copy anywhere.

What problems can I expect to run in to? I have fresh paste and cleaner.

If you're lucky you'll have to reactivate and install drivers, probably you'll have to do a repair install of windows. You can download an Iso of windows 10 and put it on a Usb Key.

    What cleaner are you using?

It came with my cooler Master paste. It's a wipe.

I don't really mind not cleaning the old processor, it's the heat sink that I will be cleaning properly.

Burnt an Iso onto a Usb before removing everything, stripped and cleaned the computer, popped the i5 into the new Mobo and installed it in the case, powered up straight away.

Whacked the gpu and WiFi card in, hooked it up, it booted straight away to the Windows screen. No lumps, no bumps, we're talking horse, not camel.

In game I got some micro stutter but it turns out the gpu driver hasn't updated in a year.

I was getting about 15 fps on Arma 3 with the fx 6300 on med settings, ran it today and it's on about 34 on ultra settings.

    Happy happy man.

Not super pleased with that third last row. That said, BB do abuse their drives.

Random question: I have 2 spare 120gb SSDs (bought a 480gb when it went on offer)
Do I sell them or is there any thing I can put them to use with ?
480gb is loads of space for my OS and steam at the mo and I have a 2tb storage drive

I'll be getting photoshop in the next month, is there any benefit to giving it its own drive for editing on ?

If you fancy a bit of speed for a scratch drive you could set them up in RAID0 and backup regularly to the storage drive, it's what I do with my "spare" SSDs :D

Nice just in time for the new tanoa. Should be on development branch for testing this week.

There has also been performance boosts made in version 1.61 of arma so next patch.

Have you got arma running on an ssd?

Just wondering if people thought that a slim PC build would be too ambitious for a first build. I've been thing recently of building a relatively cheap gaming PC mainly for indie games and ports of japanese games. I was looking at the Silverstone raven cases to get an idea of the size I'm thinking of.

The only thing you need to be careful of (having just cocked this up but managed to save it - thanks amazon!) is clearances. Otherwise it's dead easy, infact it can be easier than a larger build if you use the integrated GPU which sounds like you will.

Chances are someone somewhere has done a build on the platform you want, just google :)

Nah, that'd be fine. It'll be slightly more difficult, but not by much. Just take a little extra time doing things. The only thing that'll be different is that you'll want to focus a bit more on cable management a little more.

Guys looking for a gauge on pricing for something I'm about to sell.

Netgear Stora NAS, two bay. Included is one Seagate 500GB drive.

Was thinking starting of at €80. Sounds fair?

How much could 3 second-hand Cisco 2901's sell for?

    Looking for some help here.
I have an ASUS P9X79-E WS and it's working away grand with a Xeon E5-2650 (Sandy Bridge) for a while now.
I want to replace the Xeon with an i7-4930k but when I boot with this CPU the system doesn't complete POST and the q-code readout hangs on 61 which according to the manual is NVRAM Initialization (This is the case with or without memory installed in the board)
I also have a Xeon E5-1620v2 and it won't boot with this either, same symptoms as the i7.
Both of these processors that don't boot are Ivy Bridge parts which I know are working as I tested them successfully in a friend's system.
According to ASUS the board has official support for these CPUs since bios version 1203 and I've tried booting with this version and the latest version(1704) with no success.
I have tried booting with minimal components, 1 memory module in slot A1 and just a gfx card.
I've also tried various memory modules
    Samsung M378B5273BH0-CH9 1333mhz
    Corsair Dominator CM3X2G1600C9D3 1600mhz
    Power supply is Corsair RM850

It's looking like I might have to RMA the board as ASUS support are not offering anything apart from advising to double check components and leaning towards faulty components since the system works fine with the Sandy Bridge CPU.

Anyone experienced anything similar and get it resolved? I'm hoping I'm doing something silly and didn't RTFM correctly but I'm stumped for now.

    Assume you've reset the UEFI/XMP?

Typically running Xeon you'd run ECC but with the i7 you want non-ecc.

Has to be fault or power delivery issue, you're going from 90W to 130W. Dumb question but you've definitely got the 8Pin and 6Pin EATX power ports connected and connected to the right place the RM850?

I'll double check where the 8 and 6 pin cables are connected to the power supply but I'm almost certain they're in the right place as they're keyed.

They're connected to the correct ports on the PSU alright, for pig iron I moved then around but made no difference.
I don't normally use the 6 pin but I have everything connected while tying to get the i7 to boot to give it every chance of whatever power it night need.
