EURO 2016 - Betting Game

NB. THERE IS NO CASH PRIZE FOR THIS!!!!

    Rules:
    - You start off with a virtual €100.00
    - If you go down to 0, that's it - you're out
    - Bets are made on Euro 2016 only
    - Minimum stake is €1
    - No in game betting.
    - The cut off line for bets is 60 minutes before each match
    - Sports.coral.co.uk is the only site we'll be using for the odds
    - Odds are in decimal to make it easier to calculate
    - Only bets and odds offered in this page are allowed to be considered
    - If I don't offer odds on something then you're welcome to ask for them, if I get them on time then they're in.
    - If I'm not around could you please quote the bets made by other players to validate them. Only bets quoted by someone else will be valid.

    Doubles, Trebles, Accumulators
For those who may not know - doubles, trebles, accumulators are single bets which are linked on a number of other wagers, and the outcome is dependent on all the wagers winning.
For example, if I had a treble containing the following:

    England to beat Russia 3-1
    Rooney to score first
    Smolov to score anytime

The bet would only become successful is all 3 outcomes succeeded. Even if England won 3-1 and Rooney did score first but Kokorin scored for France, the bet would not be successful as Smolov did not score any-time. The odds for doubles, trebles, accumulators are obviously far better than single bets but naturally they're also more difficult to win.

    Calculating Returns
All you have to do is multiply the decimals:
Your stake x odd of bet = returns
Same applies with doubles, trebles, etc. You multiply each odd by each odd by the stake.

Win Markets - (Win-Draw-Win, Half-Time/Full-Time, Winning Margin, Both Teams To Score, etc)
There are loads of win markets, I've tried to pick some of the more common ones. I won't pick the exact same markets for every game, but there will be a few that I'll always pick and a few others that vary to keep bets original and to give some different options.

The structure for bets should be as follows:
    Betting slip: (Single, Double, etc)
    Stake - €1.00
    Team A to win 2-0 - 10.00
    X to score first - 4.00
Total returns - €40.00 (You don't have to calculate your returns but it would help me!)

Here's some bets to get us started.

    final-jpg.1894
    goal-scorer-jpg.1895
    group-e-1-jpg.1896
    group-e-2-jpg.1897
    group-scoring-jpg.1898
    outright-jpg.1899
    scoring-team-jpg.1900

Nb. for E/W bets on Top Goalscorer as everything is the same as Coral. It'll be top 4 and then Dead heat if others are on the same amount of goals etc

I reckon it would be easier to just let people take their own bets from oddschecker. It would increase the variety of markets available to bet on with much better chance of striking value. There'll be enough people following this thread to be able to check the accuracy of the prices as they're posted, not that I think there'd be many cheating.

Cool. Does that have fixed odds though or are they changing? My worry was picking a bet at one price and it moving.

Disagree to an extent. (Obviously, this is Jayop's game so its his decision), but I think there's a better "game" to it, so to speak, if everyone is involved on the same small number of bets to choose from. Otherwise, I'd worry things could degenerate into everyone choosing their own bets at random and talking to themselves. With a very limited selection, there's more chance of multiple people having the same bet, or competing against each other.

Yeah I think I'll keep it as is. There's a bit more work involved this way but it's the way it was done on a previous forum I played this on.

BTW, all bets for outright winner/top goalscorer etc. need to be submitted before the start of the tournament.

Ok I'll add that to that section. Thanks

Out of curiosity are enchanced prices included? For example.

Jayop backs France to beat Romania at 3/1

France are then enchanced to 5/1 and I back them.

How does it work in terms of enchancements ? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,630 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

Belgium and Ireland Dual Forecast 7.00 5 euro stake

    France 2016 Outright 4.00 5 euro bet

No, just what's on the posted odds.

I would disagree that multiple people having the same bet is necessarily a good thing, more variety makes it more interesting imo. But having said that, there's probably not a lot of people that are used to navigating through oddschecker so I'm happy to do it the original way.

What is the purpose of quoting selections? So nobody can delete theirs if it loses?

    I would imagine yes

    I would imagine yes

    Not overlynecessary for two reasons:

    1. You can see when a post has been edited just report the post so a MOD can look into it and see did they change the bet etc.

    2. You'd want to be a special kind of tool to cheat in a just for fun euro 2016 betting game

I'm not a mod and I don't have the power to check and don't have the will to ask one for me. It's not deletion, just editing. I don't think anyone would cheat as there's no point, but any suggestion of such would alone ruin the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,081 ✭✭✭ziedth

    Ya that's a fair point.

I would say 1 would take some time while quoting is quick and easy

    2. Never over estimate some people people been tools(not saying anyone here is) and wanting to win even a fun game.

Can you quote you own bet

Defeats the purpose. Look if someone doesn't get a bet posted we can verify it with one of the mods so it's not a big issue. Bets are closed an hour before games anyway so loads of time.

Lads can you add the odds and returns. Also, two of those bets haven't been posted. I'll try to get the odds for them later.

Edited original post to change Iceland odds to 8.5
