This thread is attracting too many reregs of previously sitebanned users.

Rule change, you can only post in this thread if you have more than 100 posts,
or more than a year on boards.

The "no names" policy still applies

    ... those absolute mong's snapchats!
No class whatsoever and what she wore wasn't much better.
Extremely obnoxious and tacky; right up her street.
All the men had the same guido look and the blogger's sister looked like she was auditioning for a porn movie
It's her plastic over tanned finace that I feel sorry for, poor guy is well under the whip by the looks of it!
And the fella then goes everywhere with her , like a little lapdog, sure he knows what side his bread is buttered on i suppose
Mean the BF probably thinks this is the best scam ever. freebies galore and faux celebrity status
Shows how little she has going on in her dull, self absorbed world living at home with mammy and daddy.

I've selected a range of quotes from the last few pages. I've removed names so that they're not going to be directly attributed to anyone. I challenge anyone on this thread to tell me what is worthwhile about these comments.

The F&A mods fought long and hard to have good, worthwhile discussions on bloggers and we simply gave up. We didn't have the energy to keep dealing with comments like the above. When I tried to challenge these comments, I was harangued by PM and there was even a behind the scenes campaign by PM to blemish me. Just for trying to keep the conversation clean.

There is a place on Boards for good, critical discussion, the key word being discussion. And there have been some very good posts on bloggers and snapchatters in this thread. But IMO it's spoiled by comments like the above which truly depress me.

Not sure what your problem is with my quote-

" no class whatsoever and what she wore wasn't much better"

This was directed at a blogger pouring bottles of expensive champagne over herself. It's not classy and what she wore wasn't good. That's my opinion and I am entitled to it. Not sure why you felt the need to single it out.

When I said "obnoxious and tacky, right up her street", I was referring to the pouring of Dom Perignon all over herself while she snapchatted it and squealed in delight. I would challenge anyone to tell me what's not obnoxious and tacky about that? And yes, it is right up her street, because frankly I wouldn't expect any less from her, she is obnoxious and tacky and that is my opinion of her and I won't apologise for that or be made to feel bad for that. I'm not "jealous" or a "hater". In fact, I don't even follow this blogger anymore, my conclusion of her came after various descriptive posts detailing her behaviour on holidays which I found to be obnoxious and tacky. I stand by my comment. Sorry not sorry.

I would just like to say as a reader of this thread - these bloggers that people are passing opinion about on here work for brands that target us with their product or service. We are the reason that bloggers can make an earning and no longer just write as a hobby. Therefore I do not see why people are being shamed for their opinion of what bloggers make public to us.

With regard to comments about clothes/appearance, shows like 'Fashion Police' exist purely to insult the appearance of celebrities, who may or may not us directly work to influence us depending on if they work with a brand too. Yet it is entertainment to slag them off. Even Xpose has a segment which critiques celebrities outfits (although not as outlandish as fashion police).

Bloggers/ vloggers / snapchatters / social influencers are now social celebrities in their own right. Just as working in a profession such as model / singer / actor generally makes you a celebrity too. Although I agree that getting too nasty on here is wrong and the thread obviously requires some moderation. It is still important that the public can express their opinion on people who realistically work as a sales representative for brands through new technology. This idea of some of them blocking every comment that isn't to their liking and feeling that they shouldn't have to deal with these range of opinions whilst working in a job that was created to target consumers and followers is ridiculous. Every job has its bad points, and with working in the public eye, public opinions is going to be one of them.

Finally, I believe any comments made about 'Jealously' are ridiculous and as women (maybe some men) we shouldn't be using that line at all. Men will openly insult something without being accused of jealously. It shouldn't be assumed that jealously is the only motive women have when making a comment about another woman.

I've just seen some snaps from the beauty blogger who's on holiday at the moment....she said that some of her followers have started following her friends (who she's on hols with) on social media, and screenshot some of their snaps. They are not comfortable with having their snaps screenshot. She addressed that she has no problem with people screenshotting her snaps, but not her friends private ones.

Seems like a reasonable request to me -sure nobody likes having their snaps screenshot, fair enough....BUT why add strangers on to your private Snapchat in the first place?
If I got a request from some randommer I'd just ignore it. Snapchat has the function to screenshot, and some randommer WILL screenshot!

Saw this to and ya I wouldn't add a random er either. But I think it's incredible Crazy/strange that some people actually wen to all that effort to find the people she is with to add them on snapchat? So crazy. she is dead right to comment on it I think and didn't do it aggressively either! I actually can't get over some people!!!

To stay on point, it would be nice if the bigger bloggers showed more makeup ideas/tutorials (on snapchat)like A lot of the smaller ones do! There is one I follow and she can be great for going through her full makeup routine and everything she uses and it's much more nicer to watch then 50million pictures of a different pose!

I thought she was filming that guy too, but I think she was admiring the guy beside him with the nice body.

I think she was admiring the fellas but not the older guy. That's the impression I got anyhow! As one snap mainly seemed to focus on him! That was mean but I still think ppl adding her friends is strange! And I hope the one that was in her knickers knew that snap was posted!!

It's probably more to do with the fact that these weren't her snaps and therefore she didn't have the power to filter/photoshop/alter/enhance/correct/amplify/manipulate/distort to her satisfaction and therefore didn't want anyone screenshotting them.

One of her friends that shes on holidays with is currently trying to be a make-up blogger / fitness guru. The friend tags her and has her in her snaps the whole time. This friend does constant Q&A's and is always looking for attention, so don't know how she can be mad.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭ameliams

I do not understand why she felt the need to film next door's balcony rather than just showing her face. Might as well have just typed it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,398 ✭✭✭The Young Wan

I'll say to this the exact same thing I said to one (UK based) blogger who confronted me on my disagreement with her.

In life, you have to take criticism on the chin. You can't simply ignore them, block them, and then live in a little bubble of positivity. That's a naive and unrealistic way of thinking that's how the world works.

I said to her if in her job she had done to a supervisor what she did to me when faced with criticism, she wouldn't last too long in the job. Seemed to fall on deaf ears.

It's not the friends who are annoyed. She's annoyed because she can't control their content as tightly as she does her own.

She said her friends don't want followers. Untrue. The two girls she is there with both promote their social media.

And they both accepted the followers. Snapchat has the function to accept a follower before they can view your content. Instagram does not have this if your profile is public, but equally you don't get notified when someone screenshots an Instagram pic. So I'm guessing it's snapchat she's on about; so why bother accepting them? It's the blogger who has the problem here, not her friends.

    Are these all irish bloggers?

Wow they sound like nasty people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 444 ✭✭scarbouro

Yes, they're all Irish bloggers being discussed. Not all of them are bad, you just need to find the one's who aren't like sheep and are original with their content.

Does anyone have any idea about the goodie/swag bags with regards to content? Products ARE just given by the companies? Or is there a cost associated with them (from the arrangers POV - I know the bag is included in ticket cost).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭heyjude88

One blogger who has a masterclass on today showed her bag yesterday. Bar the tan lotion thats popular at the moment and a make up brush from a company she works with everything else is clearly a freebie thrown in to bulk it up. A toothbrush, toothpaste, essence product, random massacre, random lipstick and a bag of crisps. I think the local pharmacy supplied most of the random stuff and each bag has a 10% off coupon for their pharmacy. Its all free as they get their name out there etc. Another masterclasses that i've noticed, run by a successful business woman, asks on snapchat and facebook for companies to come on board and supply stuff for the "swag bags". Then they spend a good chuck of the masterclass going into details about how the products are amazing. All given free to the bloggers, in return for mentioning the company over and over and over.

I always wondered about the profit margin of those masterclasses. It looks like they have hardly any expenses.

There must be some sort of cost for the hotel? Unless they get it super cheap close to the date as the hotel knows that they won't have a wedding etc by then. Also the bloggers always get the pent house etc, presumedly for free.

I'd say they make a mint doing them. Hence why they are all doing them. 104 euro for a ticket is madness!

I see a blogger had gotten another blogger to perform at a wedding

From my experience with these kinds of events, the items are donated by brands who want to be involved – there's usually a kind of deal made, so for example you'll say, "we'll do a post on Instagram and mention them on Snapchat" kind of thing, but I've never heard of an event organiser paying for items to go in goodie bags.

Actually, I have heard of – the very odd time – people holding events charging brands to be included in the goodie bags. So, "for x amount you can include an item in each goodie bag plus get one mention on social media and one inclusion in an online article...". That's really rare, but it does happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 991 ✭✭✭on_my_oe

On one hand I admire their balls on charging a brand, I'm still shocked. I guess that the brands are doing the sums and foresee a return on investment, but I'm thinking back to some of the goodie bags I've received over the years at various events, and I can't think of any specific brands. I have no issue with brands giving freebies for goodie bags, even if the ROI is possibly nil.

I flinch at paying €100 for a ticket; I think several times before booking a 'popular Irish magazines month.y networking breakfast', and I attend only two or three a year - ones I actually think I'll gain something from. A beauty event at €100 is difficult when you could probably learn just as much off YouTube for free.

It's hard to value some bloggers when their content is little more than copying and pasting press releases. If they're posting 500/600 words, then often they've put the work in on a keyboard crafting a post. I've done SEO focused copywriting so I know there's effort in it, even if I don't agree with the opinions, but the 150/200 word thinly disguised but not disclosed advertorial is insulting to readers.

I've had to delete the Cork blogger from snapchat. Since announcing she's pregnant (which is super news of course) her snaps are all things pregnancy, to the point you'd swear she's the first woman ever to be pregnant. It was going to be a very long 4 months if I had to listen to her daily. No other content just updates on her bump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,519 ✭✭✭Sunny Dayz

I'm sorry if this comes across as bitchy but I wish bloggers would keep their private lives out of snapchat. Snapchat should be treated the same as the blog or facebook page - by including content which relates to that. If you wouldn't put it on the blog or fb/insta, then don't put it on snapchat.

One snapchatter I follow whom I do really like her blog, seems to be showing more of her child on snapchat (she's not the well known one who recently had a baby btw) and recently you can hear the child making noise in the background, even a high pitched scream one of the days recently. Why snap when you are trying to take care of your child? Why post up a snap when your child can clearly be heard making noise in the background. That's not professional, would you conduct a work related phone call with your child (or dog) making noise in the background?

No I usually lock them up in the garden. It's very easy to shelve kids for an hour or two when something has to be dealt with immediately.

I didn't know updating snapchat would be classed as something that needed to be dealt with immediately.

Sunny Dayz is right. She wouldn't conduct a business meeting with her kid in the background.

You follow them for their personal take, you info on their alleged personal life, their trips to the gym, where they go out and when they get nails done and so on. Couple of brats in the background are just part of the equation you sign up to when you want big brother type experience. Surely nobody here is naive enough to follow them for their insight and knowledge of the products they are peddling?

BTW how many business meetings did you conduct?
