    Just got my cycle to work scheme and I've 1,000e to spend.
    I want a road bike because I want to start cycling for fitness to complement the other stuff I do, as well as cycling to work. :P

    So any input is welcome!

    There are literally hundreds of bikes to chose from. Go along to your nearest bike shop and ask them what your €1000 would get considering you probably need helmet, shorts and jersey.

    I'd recommend the Cube Peleton Race;

    Spend the 1K on the bike and get the extras yourself. Might want to start out with some padded shorts.

    Agree with above cubes are great price with a decent spec . Don't buy the extras in the shop , you'll get much better value online ( usually half the price ) . Use the local bike shop for repairs, service and must have fast items.

    I had a giant defy3 for 5 years and it was a great bike and cost me then 800 euros, sold it last week after all them years for 350, great value.

    Anyway I bought a merida ride 400 for 1150 after a haggle with no cycle to work. I was led to believe from 2 shops if I was using cycle to work a extra 200 would be added . ....great yeh.... Anyway ...again my bike is great , 105 -22 speed , I've done 3 cycles this week 150km and broke nearly all my segment records on strava .

    Another vote for the Merida Ride 400 as an entry level road bike. Got mine last September.

    I've had 2 Trek 1.1 models and would recommend them although on my next purchase I'm planning on jumping to Merida.
