why would they allow them to keep the same name there then???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Read the Facebook page, they said they should be changing the name soon.

    orso for lunch.

Had their hot sambo special which was lamb chilli and it was damn tasty.

Dabbled in an afternoon espresso martini which hit the spot on such a hot day.

Staff were very nice and friendly excellent music gently in the background perfect for chatting

    Love this place

I've eaten three times at Market Lane, on Oliver Plunkett street, and each time I was very pleased with my food. Their French Onion soup is just as you would find it in France. On another visit I had a steak that was exquisite, it did not even require the aoli that came with it. I also had - today - the mushroom quiche and it was heavenly, with lovely fried potatoes. This is a very good restaurant, and in case your wondering I do not give praise lightly. I'm a good cook and rarely go out to eat, because most places disappoint me. I find most restaurants do not have appetising food. I live in Kerry and travel to Cork about once or twice a month.

Hey Presto, new place on Paul St is fantastic, been a few times now. Fast, tasty and filling portions of salad or pasta (Bolognese, carbonara, arabiatta) for €7.50.

    anyone else been?

Had this yesterday based on this post. Had the Carbonara. It was fantastic, really flavoursome. It would put most Italian restuarants to shame Big portIon for 7.50 as well.

Ya I had the Carbonara too, lots of pancetta, most places are charging twice that and give a sprinkle of the stuff. Try the salads too, I had the Quinoa the other day with chicken, not as filling as the pasta but very satisfying.

Market Lane is great, I just find they keep it simple and execute it with perfection, nothing pretentious about it.

Had lunch al fresco at Dukes Carey's lane the other day.. the sun was out - the food was great (summer courgette salad/mozzarella and tomato panini).. service v good.. v reasonably priced.. can't go wrong..

I had a very tasty and filling salad box from Sonnys Deli on Albert road yesterday . Quite similar to Rocket man salads . I got the smaller box which was plenty and it cost €5.50. As many salads as you want to fill the box .Very friendly staff . Continued on to Shalom Park for the picnic and then back to work ! Costa del Cork

Hadn't been there in a while, but had lunch there the other day, sitting in the sun...absolutely delicious quiche. They just rarely get it wrong!

personally i don't like market lane as i find it very noisy.. just a small thing for others but a big thing for me... mind you - i have only ever eaten there at night..

and i had one bad experience there - with friends - my mates meal was so small - he was still hungry after it.. i felt that as they were visiting as i bought them there.. that was a while ago though

No, you're right. Although he loves it, we wouldn't go there with my dad for that reason, as he's a little hard of hearing and it's impossible to have a 4-way conversation!

There's nothing like bringing friends to a favourite restaurant for it to disappoint that one time! Same thing happened to us before too. Ah well, we haven't lost faith yet.

Chilli Padi in Ballincollig is still going strong anyway. Just finished it and im stuffed.
Kids portion of chicken fried rice which is HUGE and Korean wings. €11. Good value for a decent feed, small bit left over for tomorrows lunch too.
Its never busy in there tho, hopefully they keep it going as its my favourite take away.

Looking to hit cork on Saturday and get some beer and food, I have 4 places in mind and would like opinions on what the best option is

    1. Soho

    2. Bad boys

    3. Coqbull

    4.Elbow lane

If theres an even better option feel free to add it to the list

It looks like you're a fan of BBQ food, so head to holy smoke. I love the others but holy smoke has created something new in the city.

Holy Smoke is very good indeed as the other poster said. Only issue is its off the beaten track so wouldn't hang around.

Soho not bad either for some atmosphere.

Coqbull is an awful place. Avoid.

Elbow Lane more of a restaurant and more expensive.

Son of a Bun - next door to Bad Boys BBQ is an option.

Also the Meatball Place is good for grub.

Doubt you'll fit them all in though...

Here are my opinions on these:

    1. Soho - Average

    2. Bad boys - Haven't been yet but heard great things

    3. Coqbull - Amazing! Been there 3/4 times and never disappointed

4.Elbow lane - Pretty tasty, nice craft beer

Soho - nothing special really. No atmosphere, though they are relatively reliable with the food I guess?

Bad Boys - have only eaten at markets, etc but it is nice. Same guys in the restaurnt so should be good I'd imagine. Son of a Bun next door is hugely popular - burger place, since you have Coqbull on your list it might be worth considering too.

Coqbull - I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, ever. It's perfectly fine for what it is - burgers and chips. That said, last time I was there, it was reeeeally greasy - as in, dripping off the food onto the plate. Put me right off and I saw the people at the next table returning their food too. Only time I can say the food was badly prepared as such, but...

Elbow Lane - so, so good. Only issue here is the size so you might have to wait for a table. But it's well worth the wait.

Taking those into account, you may also want to consider White Rabbit - a BBQ place at the top end of MacCurtain Street where you have Bad Boys. Absolutely lovely food, huge portions and great staff. Would recommend above all of these tbh!! (Except maybe Elbow Lane!!)

I see The Rising Tide in Glaunthane has closed down. Sad to see that. I've only eaten there once but really enjoyed it. Lovely location. Sad to see places like it and Annie's closing down. I know they'd been on Groupon and the like a lot recently which is never a good sign I think!

My sister is coming down next week and I'd like to go somewhere that I normally can't go to with my fussy eater of a husband! Is there any good sushi restaurants? Orso seems to get mentioned a lot, would I need to book?

Usually you have to leave your name and contact details at Orso and they call you when they have a table free. I've never had to wait longer than an hour and it's an opportunity to pop next door to Arthur Mayne's for a pre-dinner drink. Could not recommend it highly enough. Fantastic.

Thanks Northgirl, looks like my picky hubby might be joining us after all, so I think Orso might be out.

What are the chances of getting a table in Elbow Lane on a Saturday night? Do they take your name there and let you leave, or do you have to wait around?
