    Whose attitude? Choices and consequences apply there.

    If someone is in court then it's because they committed a crime; personally I'd prefer not see drug-taking as a crime in itself, but if you commit a crime to get money for drugs, then there should not be any preferential treatment.

    I agree drug taking should not be a crime, as it is not in Portugal. By criminalising addiction you are taking up valuable resources in the Criminal Justice System. Visit any DC a huge % of the cases are drugs cases where there is no victim except the accused.

    If drug taking was decriminalised and supplies made available at cost outside the criminal gangs, what % of violent crime and burglaries would be avoided?

    I suspect that it could be really significant.

    I would believe a very large number of all crimes would be avoided could be in my opinion anything from 20-40% of such crimes but that is a non scientific guess.
