PhD microbiology but no GMP experience

I have a PhD in microbiology, but no GMP experience. All job postings in pharma/biopharma/medical devices seem to require previous experience in GMP, and most times I ring a recruitment agency the make the same point. I've applied to multiple jobs, multiple companies, and not got any further than form rejection letters.

Should I just keep applying to jobs, should I ring up companies and offer to work for free (I'm dead against this in principle but if I have to...), is there a certain company or type of job I should apply for specifically? Should I try to get a job in a shop for a while so I don't have a big gap on my CV?

Keep applying, the job market in that sector is good. Don't work for free, you have a PhD for goodness sakes; you're not only selling yourself short but also your peers. If anything you should be commanding a higher salary on the back of having a PhD.

Everyone has to start somewhere with regards to GMP experience, just read some ICH guidelines to show some interest and say your skills in completing your PhD will lend to good GDP/GMP practices.

    Congratulations on your PhD.

    One Approach

Overcome your lack of practical experience by Educating yourself on GMPs to bridge the perceived GAP
    • Here is a link to the FDA Site where there is a lot of top class information.
    • Make a contact in one of your "target employers" and ask for a copy of their GP Procedure / GMP Training material.
    • Complete a GMP Training course (Classroom or Online)
