I LOVE this warm weather, except for one thing.

My son is doing leaving cert and working his socks off studying, with 5 days to go.

He goes into school during the day to study and comes home at 6. Has something to eat then does a bit more study.

However his evening 'stint' coincides with a lot of neighbors out in back gardens. Most are fine, just barbqing, talking, playing etc. But a few are just plain bloody noisy c##ts

Worst offenders are an elderly couple 2 doors up. They have an endless stream of grandchildren that they 'entertain; in the back garden. By 'entertain' I mean screech at them, and get them so overexcited the kids invariably start crying.

I have just been hanging clothes on my line and I swear they were so loud they may as well have been standing right beside me. They are probably deaf to boot.

Appealing to their 'better nature' and asking them to pipe down is unlikely to have any effect as they are a pair of bullies. he is a well known figure with a bad reputation and his wife has a cackle like a witch.

Its just so inconsiderate. Everyone is well entitled to enjoy the weather and their back garden but we don't all want to hear how fantastic their grandchildren are or what they are doing, accompanied by whoops and cackles.

    Time for the earplugs

I remember the weather being the same in the lead up to my Leaving Cert. It was painful having to sit in on warm evenings with everybody else in the house out enjoying the sun.

Maybe go to a nearby library to study .
    Or get earplugs .

And expecting the world to shushhhh so your precious one can study isn't inconsiderate?

Send him to the library, plenty of peace and quiet there.

I suggest marrying a dothraki warlord. You might get dragon eggs as a present. If you do, raise them by feeding them livestock and unfortunate peasants and when they will be big enough to breath fire, they can take care of the noise.

If a bit of noise knocks his concentration off kilter then i hope he never does have to treat me, Doctors work under pressure, Think kiddo will be more suited to a nice office job somewhere tbh.

The people in my estate are strange, a lot of them aren't outside at all but at home with their curtains shut and no windows open, it is so odd. However every kid in the estate is out till 11pm screeching. It wrecks my head. I actually have a 4 year old and I'm expecting another so it isn't that I hate kids. But no parents watch these kids and they are so fúcking loud. Not saying that my child doesn't make noise but she goes to bed at a reasonable time. These kids have school in the morning and just cuz the sun is out they are out all night screaming up and down the street.

Good for them, my best memories I have as a kid are those long summer evenings/nights.

Sounds like too much study too me.

Overdoing it is just as bad as doing nothing.

    Your brain can't take it.

Tell him to get out the back and enjoy the sun

Why is he studying? The exams don't start until next week.

Noise cancelling headphones ftw. He won't hear a goddam thing.

Honestly. They work on airplanes a treat too.

Worth a try because you are NEVER going to get people to be absolutely still in their own back gardens on a glorious Summer's evening. It's rare enough we get them too.

    Agreed.

Could OP get noise cancelling headphones and play some really low music for himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭Wonzy

My son going to be a doctor lah de dah. He'll probably get enough pints to do jam making.

Why didn't you think of the noise when you bought the house. It's down to you, should have buying a house(probably a council house I would say) in the middle of nowhere.

    Stop blaming the neighbours

    I blame the parents....:pac:

And now a nice summer song to cheer everyone up

I don't think he needs them, he seems to have his head up his ass.

    Some background music:

    https://www.reverbnation.com/mysonthedoctor

Put it on a loop, and it should block out the intrusive sounds of all those will-never-be-either-a-doctor-or-the-parent-of-a-doctor losers.

Well if you did better in your own leaving cert you wouldnt be living in a social housing project - Go buy a detached somewhere with a few acres - you can guarantee the loan on the back of your sons upcoming "qualifications"

Ick, damn peasants wanting to do well in the Leaving Cert, what is the world coming to? In my day, the lower classes were content working the landowners fields!

(Also, she's not blaming her neighbours for her son not getting the points to study medicine, jumping to conclusions much there?)

On a less snotty note, it is traditional we get summer for the length of the Leaving Cert, and the summer ends on the last day of the exams. Seriously, every year I've been in Ireland since a few years before my own LC I've been following this trend and even modelled it with climate software and indeed there is an oddly warm patch right around now. There's also an oddly warm bout often in February which, as I recall, is around about the time of the LC mock exams!

The noise-cancelling headphones are a good idea; apart from that there's not much you can do. Shrieky neighbours will shriek.
