    Shared from Powerboat.ie.

Will 2014 see the UIM/ISA Round Ireland Powerboat Record being broken.
The current record is held by Phillip Fitzgibbon and Mike Shanahan who set the record in October 2009 in a 7.5m Tornado RIB fitted with a Suzuki 250. Their record is 18 hours 38 minutes and 50 seconds.

First up to Challenge for the UIM/ISA Round Ireland Powerboat Record is a Scottish Team. Full details of this team can be found at http://www.imperator-rib.com/
Weather permitting this weekend is looking good. The Team will have a tracker onboard and details of this can be found on their website.

Best of luck to all involved, Its great to see the record being attempted and I am sure it will lead to others having a go.

18 hours in a RIB

    Where are they starting from?

They are starting just outside Bangor, I'd say more or less the same route as the last one.

There is a Tornado rib working on "Vikings" at the moment - lovely boat.

6.8m one after appearing on donedeal. 9 whole grand and an engine that's only good for parts

They didn't make it, the 2ndary fuel tank burst and they had to abort.

What's the distance and therefore average speed you need to do to beat the existing record does anyone know?

It's about 700 miles around but you would have to add a few more for refuelling depending on how many times you have to pull into a harbour it could go up to 800 - 1000 an average speed of 40 knots should get it for you :)
    Best of luck :p

    http://www.inyourfootsteps.com/sailing/routes/3/

says 681 (but then a yacht can do it non-sop :P)

so 700nm would need an average speed of 38kts to beat the current time. No easy task...

704nm is the official distance for the Round Ireland yacht race. Depends I suppose on what islands/rocks you're allowed (or not) to go inside.....

At sea refuelling , would be the key to this, or am I missing something ?

I think the rib can hold 1050 liters between it's two tanks and the suzukis df300 burns about 1.5 liters per mile each so 700 could be doable in one run, I'd say they also carry a few cans for backup.
