No big summer holiday this year. Stag party to Galway in July, Malmo for a weekend in August and Rome for a long weekend in October for the OH's birthday.

Italy for a small break and then a while in Cuba. We left it late to book Cuba so it was hard to find availability in some places. We'll probably go to London as well at some stage but we don't have anything planned for that.

Had a week on the Camino in March, (will do another stretch next year as I loved it so much) away to the States(I've never been before!) in about 5 weeks and will probably have another European City break) somewhere in September.

People are always saying, "oh are you going away AGAIN, sure you are only back". Or "oh, Celtic Tiger must be back and so on. This type of begrudgery cheeses me off so I smile sweetly and say, ah no, Sure I've always had 2 holidays a year!

I work hard and long hours 47 weeks a year so I can travel the other 5!!! The planning and anticipation gets me through tough times and there's always something to look forward to!

5 weeks travelling? Constantly in planes and buses etc? Sounds like hell to me. Would you not be better off taking a holiday?

I might go to Limerick Junction, maybe Thurles too.

Just make sure that you move up the train in order to alight safely on the platform...

Maybe your definition of a holiday might be my idea of hell just as my definition of travel is your definition of hell.

Taking a tram in San Fran. Helicopter over the Grand Canyon. Motor biking on Route 66. Yep love travel.

    Can't wait!

    Each to their own.

These threads so often provide a platform for those with a penchant for showing off the chance to spout all the places they've been to so far and give a chance to gleefully list off their future exotic plans. Showboatery!

Pretty much yep, but I like reading where other people are off to, well for them I say and I hope they enjoy themselves :)

But whatever I do when I go abroad is a holiday, regardless of what I'm doing wherever I go. Why do you call it "travelling" and not a holiday? Is there a difference? Or are you in some state of perpetual motion in a helicopter or tram?

Something I would like to do is rent a little house somewhere in the west of the country for a week. Beside the sea. Just myself.

I was planning on doing it three years ago but I met a guy and got totally wrapped up in him. There hasn't really been any time since then. Now there is time.

Yep that's what I'm going to check out. The location doesn't matter too much as long as it's very quiet.

Are people not allowed to use different words to describe the same thing?

Oh right because you say you are going on your holiday s and I say I'm off on my travels I must be wrong and you must be right and i owe you an explanation.

I read an article recently by The World Travel & Tourism Council(WTTC), the global authority on economic and social contribution of Travel & Tourism on the Economic Impact of Travel & Tourism 2015. Part of the report outlines leisure travel as one of the fastest growing industry segments.

Perhaps you should write to them and tell them it's not leisure travel, it's holidays- because that's what you call it.

    A simple definition of travelling

: to go on a trip or journey : to go to a place and especially one that is far away
: to go through or over (a place) during a trip or journey
: to move from one place to another

Hope that explains it for you, though I'm not sure why you would feel the need to ask me to do this.

I'm enjoying reading about everyone's plans (I won't say travel plans or holidays) in case I offend someone!, so keep em coming!

Sometimes it's good to be positive and just accept people as they are instead of trying to get a cheap dig at someone else's expense..

    Onwards and upwards.

Mexico to begin the year with, Budapest/Bratislava/Prague in July, Philippines in August, maybe Sri Lanka in September, Ireland in December.

Already in the planning process for the 2017 holidays!

Sounds fantastic! How was Mexico? This and Sri Lanka are on my wish list!

Nope. I'll take a few days off but that'll be it... I actually haven't been out of the country since 2001!
