Volvo V40

Im looking at trading an older Volvo V50 (main Dealer is offering me €2k-2.5k )
and upgrading to the following V40.

Im not sure if there is value in this car, it seems a bit pricey for me but the reassurance of buying off a main Volvo dealer and getting 6 months warranty is very tempting.

It would cost me €6500 & my trade in to be in a better car but if anyone here on boards could tell me if this is good value I would appreciate it.

That seems extremely pricey to me, I got a higher spec 08 from a main dealers for €7500 in August last year with less mileage on her, it was the 1.8 petrol so diesel bound to be a bit pricier but not by much. From my research the 1.6 diesel is fairly bad engine in it, i'd go for the 2.0 if you can. I'd say around €7k would be closer to the mark for that car, certainly not nearly €9k.

OP, are you talking about a V40 or the S40 in the link?

The one in the link is way too expensive imo. High mileage given the asking price, undesirable base model and the 1.6d is far from being a rock of reliability. 2.0d is a more solid engine imo and a Volvo without leather interior just doesn't feel right so you should be aiming for SE spec at a minimum.

Here is a 2009 SE with leather and lower mileage for similar money:

Thanks for all the advice, now lookong at the followoing cars - much lower milage and possibly better value.

Nothing wrong with that generation of Renault however all 3 examples are horrible base models. Plastic wheel trim and rear windy up windows are very 1990s Ireland these days. Don't be afraid to drop back a year for a much higher spec.

Laguna III is worth a look at too.

for what it's worth, I got rid on my 2008 saab 93 wagon and got a 2011 laguna initiale (top spec) a few weeks ago. It may not be the most fashionable car in the wold, but I'm really happy with it...
