Zero hours= zero benefits ?

    I have a zero hours job with an agency for over 5 years. I want to give it up I can't find any info on what ,if any JSB I may be entitled to. PS some weeks I would have 3/4. Days work, other weeks. 1 to no days work.

    Why do you want to give it up?

    If it's simply that there are some weeks when you get little or no work and so have little or no income, then you should go and see Welfare and ask about signing for those weeks: they have a system of casual dockets under which you declare what days you worked, and if it's three or less you get benefit for the other days that week.

    Apart from that, it's not a good idea to leave a job until you have a new job lined up. Have you been looking for one?

    Start applying for other jobs- its always easier to get a job when you have a job.

    If you give up your job you will not be entitled to apply for Jobseekers for 9 weeks from your finish date.

    You will be able to do the X's and O's, actually called casual workers forms. The DSP will be able to advise you better, however be careful because if you applied for a part time role and knew it was part time then you may not be entitled to it.

    I've had situations where employees who applied for a part time or low hours contract were refused as they knowingly took a part time role when there were full time hours available.

    On the form your employeer has to sign to say there are no more hours available and you worked the most hours available.
