She's long gone, he's moved to more exotic locations to find a suitable rose.

Nope shes actually here, happily engaged and we're good friends...But dont worry makingmecrazy...the romanians, bulgarians, polish and lithuanians I dated afterwards were equally hot ;) and my current gf trumps them imo ..oh and guess what....none of their makeup weighs 2lbs either

I just used EE girls as an example because they are more commonly seen in ireland, therefore more people would be able to visualize

There's a lot of pressure on women to look beautiful and some go overboard on makeup as a result. Give them a break and judge them on their character and personality instead. Just because they're making an effort to look more attractive doesn't mean that effort was conjured up to please you personally.

Anyway, I'd say we've all done some daft looking things at times trying to look more attractive/trendy. It's not like all of us men really look that great in skinny jeans/beard/undercut hairstyle, but it's monkey see, monkey do. So what? It's just stuff you throw onto yourself to try and look well, some of us hit the mark and some of don't. Oh well.

I've dated both Irish and Eastern European girls. I think both can be very beautiful, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love gingers and pale skin so I think irish women are lovely looking. And the Irish girls tend to be streaks ahead in the personality/humor/conversation area. But I suppose communism knocks the craic out of ya for a few generations.

So how do you keep track: a table, excel sheet, pie chart, line graph, what?

I'm slightly confused by the whole 'make-up is deception' thing. Are lads really waking up in the morning and being gobsmacked because she doesn't have real purple eyelids and peachy cheeks and eyelashes longer than her fingers? Get to fcuk.

Fab. And when she gets old and wrinkly and saggy I hope you'll still love her as much.

Wouldn't that be more a case of having the same culture and shared experiences. I have heard that couples from different cultures are far less likely to succeed.

What are you on about? 2lbs of make up? Hyperbole much.
Then again, given the list of all of the gorgeous non Irish women you have dated, I'd say you are NEVER prone to exaggeration ;)

I think you're confusing that one.....All EE girls ive met are very well up in the personality area...they just dont warm to immaturity, and are far more reserved

If you think an internet conversation about something that's actually a factual observation, yet, some people just cant seem to stomach that is immaturity, then id argue you're missing the point, or avoiding it

actually it was about makeup, until someone made it about nationality...when i asked where I initially spoke about nationality in my opening post it was ignored

So not about nationality, until others made it about that

Id be glad to see it go back on topic

Your singular observations. Which doesn't equal a universal truth, since your observations are colored by your preferences and expectations and biases.

My point is that this bias blindness is so pronounced with you that you don't see it, somewhat of a marker for immaturity, hence my wry observation that what you see as your foreign friends reluctance to engage with immaturity is ironic, given your own.

If you use extensive makeup to enhance your looks, the likelihood is that your partner will become accustomed to this and probably secretly find you quite plain and haggard when you don't have your slap on.

Rather, youll see if you go through this thread, many others share my view...so not as "bias" as you argue

Infact i came seeking to see if additional observations had been made...clearly so

Are you going to ignore everyone else's also??

I thought the comments about Kim Kardashian a few pages back were telling.
Say the tables were turned and we picked a guy in the public eye. Anyone.
Then picked at him, being short, fat and balding(even though he may not be, just in oUR opinion)......and then have a pop at his spouse(as a backhanded insult to KK), what would be the response, I wonder?
I mean, as we all know, Irish guys are FAR superior to their European counterparts.

    *Yes I went there :)*

But at least you'll have a partner, and if he hangs around long enough he'll find the inner wonders and all that crap.

I can't understand why people are against women looking how they feel their best. If they didn't put in extensive effort they'd be told they're not trying and to up their game.

I went out with a friend of mine who would have had about eight different kinds of makeup on her face, I had on mascara and lipgloss, and she asked me why I hadn't even tried.

    You can't win.

So, other people don't have preferences and it's all a universal truth from the borg male hive-mind?

I don't give a monkeys what you prefer, I don't like the putting down of women that don't conform to your standard of grooming. Nobody is obliged to be attractive to you.

I suppose the aim is to have the inner confidence and maturity to resist ridiculous media standards of "beauty". 50 years of popular feminism and these pressures and expectations are only getting worse.

I use to go out with a girl who wouldn't see me anytime unless she had her make up on. I think she use to get into bed with it on, wait till I was asleep and then take it off. I'd like to say she was really attractive without make-up but I wouldn't know. Her mother was exactly the same. Wouldn't be seen without make-up on.

Let me be quite clear, I didn't date her mother.
