I might have mentioned it before but one of the major problems is that they keep killing off the veteran actors meaning the conversational scenes and political plotting is just less interesting, and the way they killed of the two characters this season just felt a bit easy, it would have been way more interesting and for me if Roose had triumphed over the Bastard. The issue is characters keep acting in ways that don't seem natural to the way they have been seen acting before, Roose should have seen that the Bastard would try and kill him and Stannis shouldn't have sacrificed his daughter- instead these things happen because they think the audience wants to be shocked.
I think there is also a major problem with Martins writing, I genuinely don't think he knows how to tie the storylines together and progress it and the TV writers are having to go on their own with their hands tied.

GoT became a dramatic sketch show a few seasons ago. Probably out of necessity due to the enormous scale of the setting. However, it sacrificed the story aspect which made the first season or two so great and really introduced us into the the world of Westeros, the time and the setting, the characters and so. Still a decent show, but more reliant on moments now than superb storytelling which is why I started watching the show in the first place.

Also there has been a sequence of a good episode followed by a very average episode episode and so on for the last two seasons.

Cannot wait for the High Sparrow to get butchered, hate his scenes, they're so boring

It's definitely been drifting along a bit for the last couple of seasons, but there was a sense this week that things are finally moving - the Starks are getting the gang back together; Dany has her Dothraki army back (though I'm not sure the whole "invincible fire god" thing is a great idea); Littlefinger is going to war. The Arya, Iron Islands and Dorne storylines all a bit superfluous though; and the whole Faith Militant/High Sparrow thing is getting a bit old too.

It's ultimately supposed to be about the battle for the Iron Throne, but nobody has made any progress in that direction for a long time; the Starks retaking Winterfell would be a good start.
