A convicted paedophile was apparantly beaten up by locals in Rathcoole after moving into a house next to a school.

    http://www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/watch-moment-convicted-paedophile-escorted-11331761

It's reported that the school sent notes home to parents advising them that the man had recently moved into the area and advised them to be vigilant. Reportedly, the situation escalated when it was noted that a ladder had been placed against his back wall, which looked onto the school playground.

While violence is rarely the answer, it has to be asked why this man was left move into a house so close to a school. Surely criminals of this nature should be closely monitored, as many paedophiles have high rates of recidivism.

There is also the question of whether the school should have let parents know, as this situation was bound to happen after word got around. Speaking as a parent, in all honesty, I would prefer to know, but given the information, what can you realistically do to ensure your child's safety?

I believe criminals of this nature should not only be tagged, but have strict curfews, constant monitoring and should never be allowed to reside within a certain perimiter of schools. I would also prefer if they had to undergo mandatory regular psychotherapy both in prison and after release. Perhaps steps like this would help to prevent situations like the above happening again.

This happened just up the road from me in Rathcoole today. His house is literally next door to a scout's den and no more than 30-40m from the school...

I have no problem with people taking the law into their own hands in this particular case.

I hope they kicked his mickey clean off and it landed in a ditch and a crow flew away with it and dropped it on a roof where he can't reach it but you can still see it when you're on the top level of the bus to remember what that kinda craic gets ya.

Seriously are there no rules like "you must not live within X Miles of the school" etc? To be honest I would probably be willing to give everyone involved an alibi if my kids were in that school. You can't protect your kids from the scary unknowns but the dangers you know, well you have to....ideally in a non violent way of course

This is what I don't get....is this man not on probation? Who thought it was a good idea to let the guy move in next to a bloody school? Who was monitoring this person's whereabouts?

Paedophiles should either get the death sentence, failing that be jailed until they die. There should be no possibility of them leaving jail alive.

The biggest problem here is with sentencing... 4 years, released after a little over a half the sentence, released early despite being almost certain he'd offend again?

What bloody planet do judges in this country live on? That guy should be locked up for life. Feel sorry for the gardai who had to rescue him, can imagine they'd rather have been kicking the **** out of him..

Also.. He actually looks how you'd expect a paedophile to look...

I agree, some of the sentences handed down are a joke. One of his victims attempted suicide a number of times after the bastard was finished with him, yet he's free to walk around, seemingly without any proper supervision.

    That can't be right.

No it isn't. Who is the law protecting?

The big question is why is this guy still alive? He should be executed not paroled.

Are offenders such as this person not monitored on release ? I think it is shocking that should a dangerous person was living so close to a school, that's pretty scary. It's also shocking the leniency of his sentences for his appalling actions...

Who is responsible for him living here ? Are they placed in houses on release or what way does it work? Surely he's not free to just roam as he pleases?

A person like This should not be allowed reibtergrate with society. He is an extremely dangerous person and should be tagged, restricted on where he can be or live at all times if not in prison. Would this person be able to move freely to different countries ?

The school were right to send out the letters. I assumed there was laws about proximities to certain places....?

I wonder how he ended up living there ? Are there half way houses for ex convicts? How can this be allowed to happen

I reckon vigilanteism is okay as long as you can be 100% certain you've got the right person and 100% certain that nobody in your posse will deliver one punch or kick too many and kill the target.

Follow those two simple rules and everything will be totally fine.

For the tone-deaf, the above is sarcasm. Shouldn't need to be said, and yet witness the replies.

It's only a matter of time before peadophile-beating becomes an olympic sport.

These people have to live somewhere and I think that treating them as another person in the street is the way to go BUT make sure that at least one adult knows exactly where he is at every minute of every day!

Beating paedophiles up and forcing them out of an area only leaves the authorities with the dilemma of housing him somewhere else(Maybe where you live) and they might actually decide that the paedophiles safety and right to live in peace is more important than the need to notify the public in the area.

At least when they are living in one house they can be watched like a hawk by everyone in the area! if he goes "underground" then nobody knows what he is doing or where he is.

There is actually a bit of an agenda on the go to normalise pedophilia. I heard on of the vile creatures on the radio recently with a poor me sob story about how misunderstood he is.

From what I've read on Facebook (take it with a pinch if you will) he was housed there by the church. And the people who gave him a beating were 'republican sinn fein'.

I agree with your first rule ........ your second rule, not so much.

Why was the church housing this guy? It's not as if there is any sort of housing crisis at the moment or are all of our remaining homeless child molesters?

They were hoping he would become a priest.

Every pedophile should be chemically castrated. If he can abuse someone enough that they attempt suicide. Then 2 years is far too little time.

Somone loses the rights to their giblets the moment they interfere with a child.

    They're born that way - don't deserve a beating.
