Hi folks, last Friday I saw a golden eagle, no more than a year old, perched on a telephone pole preening, just off the forest road at the back of the airport. I didn't think they were anywhere near Leinster, never mind Dublin! Was I seeing things? Google doesn't help this time.

you'd certainly stand a good chance of seeing buzzards there.

Are they not all tagged/ringed these days?

Maybe the Golden Eagle Trust could confirm?

It was a Buzzard rather than a Golden Eagle. Thankfully our Buzzard population is doing quite well! They're great birds in their own right.

Don't think it was a buzzard. Brown head and wings, white flecked chest, yellow curved beak. It was only 30ft from me. I'll try that link, thanks.

No, you're all right. Having imoogled "buzzards in Ireland" I'd say that's the bird I saw alright. Funny, I always assumed buzzards were black/grey.

Yup, I blame the Virginian and the High Chaparral!
At least now I know what beautiful birds buzzards actually are.

They're gorgeous birds. I was out hunting this morning and seen the big female out soaring. Funny enough she was circling a field that was waterlogged and it had 4 mallards in it.she then let out her call and few seconds later the male appeared. Woukdve thought she'd be on the eggs but maybe it didn't happen this year. Its be the first year in few years that they didn't lay egggs
