I was in the north today and filled with super unleaded for the first. Don't think we are missing much so far. The wife prob didn't appreciate me trying to find if there was a difference but the two little people in baby seats in the back enjoyed it.

You'd need more than one fill by now to tell the difference really (and potentially a dyno). ECU's these days are smart enough to learn and adjust timings based on the fuel quality, so if you wanted to check an instant change then you'd probably need to pull a fuse to reset the ECU learnings.

225 euro is a good price for app connect. 100 cheaper than my dealer wanted. Had you mentioned it as part of your order or anything and got a discount or was that just the price? That blue is lovely by the way. Best of luck with your new motor.
    JoeA3 wrote: »
€225 is about the cost of the licence key itself so he probably got the labour charge for free.

I had asked about it when ordering but was too late as the car was plucked from another dealer who had it on the way to them on the boat.

Essentially I got it for minus the labour cost, would seem expensive if just paying that but I put the deposit against it so only paid €25 when picking it up.

I see they are releasing a limited edition GTi Clubsport S model with 306bhp. Quicker and obviously lighter than the standard R but heavily track focused.

Sets record lap time round the Nürburgring:

@OSI, Kmart6... Or anyone else who's had App Connect activated by the dealer...

Quick q - does the "VOICE" button still say "requires dealer activation" for you? Does that function require completely separate activation or does it get activated along with App Connect?

It still says requires activation, but it does enable Siri and Google Now when using App Connect so you can use the button on the wheel and tell Siri to play music, call etc.

Cool thanks man. I've been on to the dealers today about it. They don't know much about it as expected, but hopefully I'll get it done within the week.

Anyone have any issues with the display for the radio/nav/camera. Yesterday I had no display but could hear the radio fine and could play music tru the media button.

Turn on and off the car (plus open the drivers door) and eventually it worked.

This has happened twice to me. Very annoying.

Yes. Very common, happens to loads of them including mine from time to time. You need to reboot it! Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds and the radio will reboot and the screen will work. It's one of those things that isn't worth the hassle of going back to the dealers with imo, although I might mention it myself next week as I'm getting App Connect activated.

Yep, one of those things. Hasnt happened me in a few months, used to happen occasionally. Not worth the hassle to bring it in. Long press the power button (maybe 15s) and it will sort it without having to do anything else.

When it happened I was near the service dept so called in but missed their technicians by minutes according to the guy behind the counter. Working fine this morning so will use the power off button next time.

Thing is I don't think there is a fix. Lads in the UK have gone back to dealers about it and it's a known "bug" with the media units with no known fix for it yet.

The Front Assist appears to be buggy to. Read of a guy on one of the forums who pulled out from behind a lorry to overtake it and the car slammed on the brakes. Similar but far less dramatic happened to the wife yesterday driving through the estate to get to the house, she turned around a bend where there were no cars parked and the red warning symbol flashed up on the screen and it braked as well, although it didn't stop the car.

Yep. It's beeped and flashed up the red warning for me a few times, the most common scenario it does it for me is: I'm following a car (a reasonable distance behind) and that car either turns left suddenly or pulls into the hard shoulder.

I don't think it's ever prodded the brakes for me... but I suppose at least I know it works.

Sorry for the off topic post but you seem to know quite a bit about the radio/media systems.

I've a 152 Octavia vrs and I guess it has a very similar radio/media system to the Golf's.
My system won't hold the long term mileage figures, it just resets it's self back to zero at random intervals.
It's not a big issue but I'd prefer if it kept the long term figure so I was wondering if you'd heard of anything like that happening?

I said it to the garage when it was in for the first service and they performed some sort of software update but the problem persists.
I'd appreciate any help you might be able to offer. :)

I've had the near miss warning a few times, usually on smaller country roads when somethin passes on a bend going the other way. I've never had it apply the brakes for me though...

    It's not a "bug", it's a feature :pac:
Unfortunately that's just the way it works, it can't be changed. It maxes out and resets back to zero whenever you hit X hours or Y kms (not sure of exact numbers).

    Feckit, that's disappointing.

There's a slight discoloration/error in one of the graphics on the "car" page.
Again it's not a big thing but I'd prefer if it wasn't there and tbh I was hoping the long term error was reason enough to have the unit replaced under warranty... :(

You mean the LCD screen itself has some bad pixels or something? Does it show up on the other screens, like the radio / music playback? If it was annoying me enough I'd ask them to replace it.

In the "car" screen there's a graphic of the vehicle and on that graphic there is a discoloured area.
It only appears when there are no notifications about the vehicle.

It's a little annoying but tbh the screen is only ever really on radio or phone.

The long term resets itself every 100 hours.

I've noticed with the media system screen going blank it does it when asked to do a few things together, like starting the car in reverse which connecting a phone for android auto. It's like it cant process everything and then sh1ts itself.

Funny... as a software engineer myself I'm probably a lot more tolerant than most that sometimes you just have to reboot, and that's it's easier to do just that than go looking for the proper fix ;)

It saved me running into the back of a fiesta a few weeks ago.

Just back from 20hrs flying and I was driving to my sisters place, lapse of concentration and the fiesta was stopped in front of me....car braked and saved my bacon. I'm 99% sure I would have hit it otherwise :(

Just saw a golf r on fifth gear there and there was only 1 exhaust on each side, thought the R had 2 each side.

It does. The GTI has one on each side.

Funny that's what I thought yet they called it an R.

I typically dont do much mileage, my daily commute is less than 4 miles each way and thats hardly enough to get the car warmed up. With a bit of traffic in the mix the economy has been at about 20 / 22 mpg most of the time so far. Anyway, during the week I had the opportunity to go out for a slightly more decent drive and it was interesting to see the economy practically double. Also I have to say that I am really liking the adaptive cruise control.

Only a bit more than 1,200 KM on the car so far but still thrilled to bits with it....

watched the fifth gear review of the mark 7 gti. at the start of the review Tiff advised buyers get the performance pack.
later in the review he complained about the fact that the traction control of the PP ruined his fun!? well get it without it then!

Very easy! 5 minutes, plug and play. You just need to open your wallet and order these: http://www.carsystems.pl/new-product-golf-mk-7-dynamic-tail-lights-led-adapter-led-dynamic-turn-lights,id2250.html
