The one ad that's driving me crazy is the Aer Lingus "Smart" ad. Aer Lingus used to do good ads but this one is so annoying and is on ad infinitum.

"Smart" deserves a kick in the hole.

Most annoying advert on radio has to be "appliances delivered"

Annoying VO, annoying script and annoyingly on every effin hour. So much so that I now find myslef on Radio 1 more often than Newstalk cos I switch the microsecond the advert comes on and it could be a hor or two before i switch back.

What do you suppose happens when Smart and Brave need to travel together? I wonder will there be a new craze for giving kids adjectives as names.

Those stupid ads where they read out the terms and conditions at the end, they talk very fast in case someone might hear what they are saying, how stupid do they think people are?

The ads for RTE on RTE ("we were there") are just embarrassing.

The ad for the IMI..... what is the woman even saying?

Or is that secret code for "if you have the faintest notion what she's on about, you're good enough for the IMI"

You could balance on one foot with a potted plant on your head.

Challenge the goldfish to a staring contest *weedy little voice* 'You win*. (This is a falsehood, goldfish have memories a lot longer than 7 seconds).

    Shh, movie's starding.

    Those god awful Virgin ads.

"Hi Mark, I thought you were in London, but you're using your office phone number".
"yeah, I am, somebody showed me this Internet yoke, it's incredible, isn't it". ;-)

Isn't 'call divert' incredible? I had it on my office landline back in 1997! The only trouble was that people used to reach me down the pub during office hours. :D

There's an ad for Kilkenny something, maybe shop? Voiced by a lady with a vaguely antipodean accent putting the emphasis on KILL rather than Kenny... Was there no one in the studio to correct her, especially when it's the name of the company!

    The ad for Des Kelly.
They've got this woman putting on a flat Dublin accent and it's cringey because it's obvious she doesn't really speak like that.
I particularly hate when she says "..where QUALITY matters"...the way she says "quality" irritates the hell out of me.

Since this thread is also labeled "Best" I must say I rather like the ads featuring a kid asking why the goldfish is sleeping for such a long time. Makes me smile. Funny thing is I cannot remember what it is advertising - but we all know the brands being advertised in irritating ads.

Life assurance for when you die

It's cute alright, but the punchline is a bit..... depressing.

That ad for the avoca clinic, where the announcer says something like "Finally science has caught up to the idea of cosmic surgery".

Yes cause the number 1 priority has been to show off your new ample chest.

There's one for lowcostholidays.ie on at the moment and it's doing my nut in.
It's voiced by the same nasally D4 bint who voiced the Liffey Valley one a few months back. (Remember: "Liffey Valley, time for meeeeeeee, see Liffey Valley dosh ie").

Well now she seems to have trouble saying even the simplest of words.
E.G: "Dewn't gew hicust, gew locust. Locust holidays dosh.ie".
Her accent is unbelievable and it sounds like she's smiling all the way through it.

Harry larry and barry for some phone company. Who comes up with this ads? A class of 8 year olds?

I'd be willing to bet some of the worst ones are clients' own ideas.
Every ad agency dreads the client who has a 'good / great / fantastic idea' that occured to them in the shower that morning. The job of a competent account director or even the MD is to steer the client away from foolishly pursuing it.
Since the majority of small rural ad agencies clientbase is small business being run by private owners, the bread and butter work has to be handled delicately, and telling a client that his idea has big hairy bogies on it is delicate work, and not everyone is capable of doing so.
As a result, we hear dreadful ads like some of those mentioned above. Thankfully, the majority of ads on the National Broadcaster originate from so-called 'professional' agencies who have a bit of a clue about what plays better than some. They can still produce some utter turkeys, as we have seen.

Although not strictly adverts, I find those promo slots for shows (for example, the little snippets of a previous Ray D'Arcy Show they play to entice you to start listening) cringe worthy.

Obviously they try to pick out the wackiest, most funny or profound moment from a previous show in recent days, most of them are anything but.

    Go away out of that..

The majority of ads on national radio are cringingly bad, including from big names who are undoubtedly not using 'small rural ad agencies'

2 current examples, of many already mentioned here: Skoda and Virgin Media
