Wow, great find! Fantastically comfy and the turbo diesel is a great drive and will go for ever. I'd drive that if I didn't have a Tipo!

    I'd sooner have the Teapot.

So what's the story with insurance?

Is it only cars between 15 and 20 years old are being caught with the new rubbish insurance rules? And anything 20+ years qualify for classic?
Or is it only specific models of cars are "classic"?

Really like these, the first brisk diesel of that size car. Taxed as 2.0 as its 1905cc though.

2007 Mondeo diesel with 13 months NCT, 155k miles but you'd expect that on a repmobile type vehicle 9 years old... asking €1950

Not many Mini with NCT to 2017 about in bangernomics budget, this one has only 109k miles, bodywork not perfect and you'd need to lift the seat covers but not a bad buy if all ok.

If that's as good as it comes across, itd be a great buy. Nice colour combo.

Another something for the Summer...NCT until 3/17 for €1400. One claimed owner too, if it checks out okay it could make for a decent runabout. No idea what they're like specifically though

To be fair to the seller he has a picture of the mileage in the ad...could be a mistake

Buddy has the 130 bhp ver of that car - same year and bit more mileage. If I was in the market for a cheap economical reliable load lugger, I would give that seller every penny of the asking. It looks mint and I can honestly say that they are quite an underrated car. Great Bangernomics.

Very true - just gets up my nose every time I see it.
Edit: meant to also say, that I never thought of that - the innocence of the ad.

Where did the 20 year thing come from? AFAIK it's 30 years for vintage class, no such thing as classic?

There are a few companies that take 20 y/o cars on as classics, as long as you have another car insured as a daily driver. First Ireland being one of them.

For any one with space, it might be worth parking a couple of worthless 15 year old cars until they turn 20.

It's not even that strict. I have my 16 year old BMW 318Ci insured as a classic with First Ireland. I have no insurance an any other car.

    My ads on adverts.ie:

Victron stuff for sale, Multiplus-II, Quattro, other inverters and batteries and usually some watches!

How much does it cost? Are there any restrictions, mileage, commuting to work etc

I got quoted €220 (max 2k miles) fully comprehensive, €260 (max 4k miles) if you already have insurance on another car

Unfortunately I have no insurance on another car, so I pay €340 fully comprehensive (max 6k miles)

Normal insurance as in any other car, so yes social and domestic (pretty sure this includes commuting) but no business use. First Ireland needs proof of membership of a classic car club.

Jaysus that's still cracking value @ 340 fully comp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65,700 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Aye, I got quoted €625 renewal on my normal insurance (6 years NCB). I did not find that quote agreeable :D

According to the insurance company reg checker, that IS a 130bhp version!

That's a great deal. Certainly something worth considering if a nice usable classic ever tempted me.

Think I need to make a space. Suspect it'll be long gone before I've made room :-(

Wouldn't get insured on it myself but my god I'd love to own one.

    Sold already!? Well done.
Did you get what you asked for?

Horrible. 190 quid less a haggle though and it's tested till 2017. That's cheaper than walking :-)
