Enough Said, Obvious Child, Silver Linings Playbook and Trainwreck are all fairly good.

I don't watch many romantic comedies but usually anything with Katherine Heigl is good.

What If, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan.

I really liked The One I Love which is on Netflix. It's a good, odd, sort-of romantic comedy but just be sure to not watch the trailer. Go in without reading up too much on it.

Y'know, I'm /really/ struggling to find any more beyond this

Sleeping With Other People was half a good film with a brilliant lead pair, worth a punt imo but keep your expectations grounded
If Top Five counts, I'd include it, but I seem to recall literally everyone else I know hating it
Ruby Sparks was better than I expected
Two Family House was a sweet little film, not sure if it's a romcom but it's got some romcom beats
    Moonrise Kingdom, of course
    Greenberg (counts, I assume?)
Waitress? Does it count? Is it recent enough?
    Adventureland?

    I suppose Her counts.

The Rewrite isn't too bad either and it's nice to see Hugh Grant in the lead.

I haven't seen many recent rom coms,so I said I'd try and rectify that.

True romance is a great show alrigh.

500 Days of Summer is the best romcom I've ever seen

    I suppose Her counts.

No way, Her was not a romantic comedy. It was more... dystopian commentary on the advance of technology and how our primitive little hearts just won't ever keep up.

I don't usually go out of my way to crap on somebody's recommendation, but I found About Time to be nauseating. Hear me out...

We're supposed to like the main character - but he's a complete liar, whose entire life is a lie!

He never lets his wife know about his ability to travel back in time. So everything he does that seems spontaneous and thoughtful - probably the reason she thinks that he's such a wonderful man in the first place! - is in actual fact premeditated after much trial and error. It's kind of a betrayal: she's kept in the dark; she never truly knows his motivations for anything and he deliberately - by not telling her anything - keeps her ignorant about the fundamental fact of their relationship; he would have never stood a chance with her in the first place if it wasn't for his "gift". Seems like an honest set up!

He would have stood a chance surely. Was she not into him after the first blind date? I suppose you could argue they would have never met had he not used his ability in the past. Im not into romcoms myself but will watch anything with Rachel McAdams in it as she's a goddess, but I thought that film was decent for its genre

Perhaps she was into him. I was wrong to say he never stood a chance, but things definitely conspire to make sure that there's a danger that the two may not eventually get together. Thankfully, he's always got that time trick to neuter anything than reality wants to throw at him.

I just think there's a fundamental and glaring dishonesty between the two of them: she never knows about the thing that is his most vital characteristic, his ability to travel through time, which he's used to shape their lives.

Your definitely right if that was to happen in real life. But I suppose it's the whole point of the film, that it's a given (for the sake of the story) that there's nothing morally wrong with it.

About Time isn't really a Rom Com anyway. The main relationship there is the father/son one.

500 Days of Summer isn't a RomCom either. It's about a guy who won't listen to what this girl is telling him, hounds her until she goes out with him and then still doesn't listen to what he's telling her. Both main characters are hugely unlikable too.

As for recommendations. .... There haven't been that many recent ones that are any good. They've all been mentioned. TV is doing Rom Com better these days. Catastrophe and You're The Worst being two great ones.

I don't know if Catastrophe is that romantic but it's a fantastic comedy!

It's romantic in that it involves a couple meeting and falling in love. There's just a lot of sex and pregnancy and fighting in between :)

There's a film called Take Care that's quite good. It's about a women who gets hit by a car and when she's released from hospital she's still got a broken leg and arm and a few other injuries. When she realises that none of her friends/family are going to help take care of her she phones up her ex boyfriend and guilts him into doing it. It's not a standard "rom com", it's more along the lines of Obvious Child than something like Sweet Home Alabama.

Laggies, with Keira Knightley and Sam Rockwell is quite good too. It was called something else over here, can't remember what.

I think it is a rom-com - it aspires to be funny and it does put the relationship between the couple at the centre of things, along with his relationship with his father. There's a bit of sci-fi in there too but I think it's as much a Romantic Comedy as it is anything else.

It was advertised as a straight up Rom Com, which I think did it a disservice, but it's not strictly a Rom Com, in my opinion, simply because that relationship didn't seem to be the main drive of the story. It's not a will they/won't they sort of thing. It's resolved pretty early on. But yeah, it could go under the Rom Com heading, I suppose.

I remember liking Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist but I can't really remember what it's about. Juno too but now I'm thinking they're the same film ;)

Does Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind count? What a movie that is. And while we're at it, try Anomalisa :)

Barefoot (2014) is worth a look. It makes a nice change for the male lead to be trying to get rid of his "love interest" instead of the usual psycho-stalker-who-finally-gets-the-girl storyline.

In that sense, yer man's behaviour in About Time is no more morally doubtful than the typical rom-com character. In some ways, you could argue that most of us desperately try to fix our foot-in-mouth chat-up gaffs and if we could back up a few minutes or a few days we'd all do it. :pac:

    The Five Year Engagement.
    Crazy Stupid Love
    Safety Not Guaranteed

The Longest Ride - Not really a RomCom but a good romance film none the less.

Not the biggest fan of the genre* but I quite liked Young Adult wih Charleze Theron.

Bridesmaids had it's moments but it's really more of a chronicle of one woman's gradual mental collapse and hence a bit grim.

Young Adult is a bit grim too but I guess that's what I liked about it!

    *EDIT: I f**king hate rom-coms!
