Tuesday: mad at work didn't get into Dublin till late, no run. Brought my 22 day streak to a shuddering halt.

    Wed: 7 miles including a 5k (19.52) in a place I can't even remember.

My STD problem (smack Tang down) is proving to be a more virulent and annoying strain that I'd anticipated. It'll probably take a few more weeks than initially expected to sort out!

Thursday: still crazy at work, no run, hope this isn't the slippery slope back to bad habits.

Friday: plan called for 5/4 easy double. Got 6 miles done @ 8.24, started in brilliant sunshine and finished been drilled by hailstones!!!!

Yesterday: plan called for a hill sprint session. After breakfast yesterday Mrs TbL announced that we were going to town shopping for beds. Ffs, early morning run outta the question so!! I hate fecking shopping but how bad could this be? 9 hours later we had bought a feckin bed, ONE single bed ffs!! I needed a lie down after all that! She then decided we wee gonna eat out and after that we had to call into the in laws for a drink. A total wipe out of a day, no running.

Today: plan called for 12 mile "LR". Mrs TbL got called into town at short notice and by the time she got back I'd decide to just write off the week and put the feet up. Guilt kicked in and I headed out on a local route in extremely windy conditions. Bit of a slog towards the end and finished 13.58 miles @ 8.21.

Very poor weeks training but I was glad I got this in.

Gonna focus hard on getting all sessions done next week.

Ps. Thanks girls for the table assembly instructions.

    Day |Session |Notes |Total weekly miles|
    Monday |3/5mile double easy |6 miles @ 6.35| 6.00|
    Tuesday |unscheduled rest||6.00|
    Wednesday |5k race |3m wu/ 1m cd, 5k 19.52 | 13.00

Today: very windy out there again today. Got 7 miles easy done @ 8.17 over Seanadh Pheistin, in sun, wind and rain!

Got out again late this evening for a 4 mile Nursing Home Special, shuffled along at 9.12 pace. Rectus adbominis starting to act up so I'll need to get that sorted in the next couple of days. I thought I heard the first cuckoo of the year last Wednesday but that was just Tang :), first official sighting on tonight's run!

    11 miles for the day.

Today: plan today called for 5k race. I'd entered the Galway 5k series but missed last weeks race in Galway. Tonight's race was in Craughwell. Sidled up to Martyboy at the start who either didn't see me or was doing a good job of ignoring me! Quick chat before we were off, Marty took off like a man leaving the red light district with a string of unpaid debts! Quarter of a mile in he was doing 5.50 pace! Stupidly I tried to stay with him and again the first mile cost me, and I didn't see Marty again. Another sub 20 but last mile the lungs were burning. Couldn't see Marty at the finish, maybe the madman ran back into Galway :)

Can't escape incontrovertible facts, I'm still not fit and I'm too fat. I need to cop on, impatience will be my downfall if I'm not careful. Just need to consistently follow the plan and stop using the shovel when I'm eating and the times will come.

New mantra: be patient and consistent grasshopper!!

    Splits:

    6.10
    6.29
    6.27
    6.05 for the bit

Wednesday: plan called for an easy mile double.

Got 6 miles done @ 8.58 early in the morning around local boreens. Glute was tight.

Got 5 miles @ 8.38 around Barna golf club and the wind farm.

Got a late evening massage, first time with this masseuse and after asking me a couple of questions, I thought she said I looked a little "lard assy", "what?" says I giving her a hostile glare. "Lordotic" see said, explaining what it meant! (I looked it up when I got home to be sure!) She relieved a lot of the stiffness and I'll use her again.

    11 miles for the day

Thursday: plan called for another easy 3/5 mile double. Out early yesterday morning in beautiful sunshine over Seanadh Pheistin, 7 mile easy saunter @ 8.28.

Decided to head out just before 9 last night for a Nursing Home Special, eldest daughter tagged along and we just tipped along at a very easy pace. She had the audacity to tell me I'd a weird running style. Told her she's now paying for her own wedding :) 3 miles @ slightly over 10 min pace.

    10 miles for the day.

    Today: plan called for 2 mile wu/cd with 3 x 8 mins @ 6.40 off 3 mins recovery.

Had to get this done early this morning as I was heading to London. Did it on the gravel track around the gaa pitches. Was stuck for time so only got 1.5 mile warm up done and even less on the cool down. Paces for the 8 min reps:

    6.33, 6.31 & 6.30

Did a combination of gentle jogging, walking and stretching for the recoveries.

Happy to have it done as I won't get a chance to run tomorrow at all.

Sat: a friend of mine has a box at Selhurst Park and my Dad, young lad and I travelled over to the Palace v Stoke game. No close encounters with the Crystals this time!

Didn't get home till 3am so no run.

Today: plan called for 12 miles LR. Got up late and was very tight for time as the missus had to go into town.

Did the same route as two weeks ago, out and back to Rossaveal. Felt good today and hopefully the strength and fitness is starting to come back. After a very slow first mile the pace started to drop and I probably ran this too fast as most of the miles were closer to my current steady pace.

    12 miles @7.42

    Day |Session |Notes |Total weekly miles|
    Monday |3/5mile double easy |7 miles @ 8.17 & 4m @ 9.12| 11.00|
    Tuesday|5k race|5k @ 19.53 |15.00|
    Wednesday |3/5easy double| 6m@8.58 & 5m @ 8.38|26.00
    Thursday |3/5easy double | 7m @ 8.28 & 3m @ 10.00|36.00|
    Friday |2m wu/cd with 3 x 8 mins @ 6.40 off 3 mins recovery|6.33, 6.31, 6.30 |42.00|
    Saturday|unscheduled rest||42.00

Yesterday: plan called for 3/5 mile easy double. Bit manic at work at the minute and I wasn't sure if I'd get the double done today. Early start over Seanadh Pheistin, tagged a couple of extra slow miles on, 7 miles @ 9.14.

Managed to get 4 miles east done yesterday evening before heading up to Dublin. 4 @ 8.52

    Total for day 11

Today: plan called for 2m wu/cd with 6 x 4 mins @ 6.30 off 2 mins recovery. Stayed in hotel near Santry and coach suggested I do this in Santry Park. Was dreading this but probably overthinking it, just get out and give it a bash it's usually never as bad as you think. Got a 3 mile warm up done nice and slow before starting the reps. First one was hard and it took me a while to get going. Again a walk, jog, & some stretching during the recovery. Only managed a very short cool down.

Off to Prague for the rest of the week with work so happy to have this done. Reps might have been a bit on the quick side and I need to speak to coach about pacing as I need to keep looking at the watch for pace guidance as I'm crap at it.

    Rep paces

    6.22
    6.15
    6.22
    6.22
    6.20
    6.19

You mustn't like that 3/5 double combination that's 4 in the last two weeks that you decided to change by extending the mileage. Any particular reason? In your view, will this approach have a positive, negative or neutral effect on the achievement of the overall training stimulus that your coach is trying to achieve by prescribing them? Would your coach's view agree with yours if the same question was put to him?

Nice splits on the speedy reps. Don't forget to give one of us DNS boys a shout if you ever need someone to keep you honest in Santry ;)

Fair question M, and you actually read the posts!:)!

With all the travel I've leaked mileage in the past and I'm trying to keep the weekly mileage more consistent. The extra miles tend to come in the mornings my run when I'm not sure I'll get out again that day. The pace on these runs is also very easy verging on recovery pace.

I'll check in with coach and see what he thinks.

I'd a loved company this morning, forgot that you were close by. Definitely next time if you're around.

I reckoned that was your thinking behind it. Was (and am) interested in seeing if coach had given you standing instructions/guidance on what to change and how if you come up against travel and time constraints or if you decide on the tweaks yourself.

Hopefully, catch up for a few miles soon. Remind me again when the smackdown with the youngfella is? Must get the date in my diary!

If my journey to the City of a 100 Spires was in the less than salubrious confines of a Ryanair flight my transportation to my hotel had a touch of surreal posh about it.

Normally if one is been escorted off a Ryanair flight it's usually done under duress by the local constabulary or airport security. As I was coming down the stairs of the plane some lad was waiting at the bottom with a sign with my name on it. I nodded to him and as the rest of the passengers were getting on the bus, he took my bag and put me into a car. We arrived at a side door and I was escorted into a private waiting room, he took my passport and another lad asked me if I wanted something to eat or drink while they checked my passport. A few minutes later he gave me my passport back and we went out another door where a car and driver were waiting to take me to my hotel! I'd been told by the people I was meeting that they'd organise everything for me but I wasn't expecting the celebrity treatment. (Was a little disappointed to find out later that the paid service is available to everyone :) )

Staying in a very impressive hotel in the centre of Prague, near Prague Castle. The hotel was once a monastery and dates back to the 14th century.

I've never been in Prague before but I'm seriously impressed by the little bit I've seen. Lively cosmopolitan city that's steeped in history, excellent public transport with very few cars in the city centre area, it's also extremely clean. At lunch today I took a quick stroll about and I came across an orchestra playing in the old town square, sitting out with a coffee listening to them play was pretty cool.

Was been taken out for dinner tonight so I'd a real short window to get a run in, today's plan was for 3/5 mile easy double. Found two parks near the hotel in mala strana district, one had serious hills with awesome views over the city but hard to get any rhythm going given the gradients the other was nice and flat and faced onto the river but it was too small and packed with people and dogs out enjoying the evening sunshine. Only got 3 slow stop/start miles done.

Might have to use the treadmill for my session tomorrow as the local roads and footpaths are mainly cobblestone and neither park is suitable which is a shame.
