DVD-R - Is it possible my computer doesn't take these?

I bought a spindle of DVDs the other day and they're DVD-R.

Whether by luck or design, I think I've always used DVD+R.

I just had a minor nightmare trying to remove the disc from the drive when the software (ImgBurn) wouldn't record to it. I had to force turn-off the computer and turn it back on again.

I just burned the files to a DVD+R without a hitch.

Is it possible that DVD-R won't work on this machine?

    How can I tell?

    Many thanks.

    D.

Should say on the DVD drawer (unless you have a slot-loading drive)

It is possible (but unusual unless you have a very old DVD drive) that your drive doesn't support DVD-R media. You can use a tool like this to verify this. most drives will be DVD+/-R.
I'm guessing the issue could be that your drive doesn't like the media you are trying to use. A firmware update should sort this

    Thanks.

It's DVD +/- I've discovered. (I looked in Device Manager)

So, I think that was just a dud blank DVD.

Seems to be working again now.

    Thanks again.
