Sad day. He blended funk, soul, pop, disco and rock music. Brilliant singer. Played most of the instruments himself. A proper talented bastard and a phenomenal guitarist in particular.

Kinda annoying seeing people on social media who I know couldn't name three of his songs going on about what a legend he is.

    Thankfully that doesn't happen here....

Well Vimeo has a Sign of the Times remix if thats any good. https://vimeo.com/45217411

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

I had a ticket for the Croke Park gig that was cancelled. My friend saw him in Malahide and said it was the best concert he was ever at

I didn't think anybody under thirty would have a clue about him

You really are a vile poster. You have form for this of course so it's no shock to see another one of your idiotic posts in a thread like this.

An unbelievable guitar player, maybe the best ever.

    R.I.P

Please view this because he really didn't get the plaudits he genuinely deserved.

I'm not going pretend I was his biggest fan but always enjoyed the 5 or 6 songs I listen to regular enough.

    RIP

Agreed I certainly wasn't either but admired his genius

Fack it. I'd love to have seen him live.

    The Ultimate Live Experience

P***Y CONTROL absolutely rocked the place.

He made the music Hendrix would have if he had the technology

    F*** this

This is the first time I was ever shocked and saddened at a celebrity's death (Except for Dermot Morgan)

My favourite song was Sign O The Times

Lyrical genius - "In France a skinny man died of a big disease with a little name, by chance his girlfriend came across a needle and soon she did the same"

Ni bheith a leithead ann arís

    RIP

    As in, working full time?

Having seen prince a number of times I can tell you now that anybody who saw him, from the guys dragged along by girlfriends to the rockers who went on a whim or people who had no feel for or interest in music, every one of them went home elated. He was something to behold on stage and trite as it may sound we won't see anything remotely like him again.

If I had my way the universe would retire the colour purple now, feels redundant...

    Crying purple tears.

    RIP Prince.

    Very sad news.

    Another musical genus gone.

At the risk of sounding old I really doubt that the world will mourn the passing of today's "Pop" stars, too often called "legends" the way Bowie and Prince and even Lemmy will be missed.

Lads, stop feeding obvious trolls and just report them. You're giving them the kick they crave.

    Thanks

Doesn't he have hours and hours of 'secret' albums locked in vaults? I'm not sure if he started doing that during his prime, but he was eccentric enough to write a proper classic album then just lock it away for the laugh. Sure he gave away classics like Nothing Compares to You and Manic Monday.

Will be interesting to see what (if anything) is released posthumously.

RIP Prince. Thanks for the soundtrack on my favourite Batman film, was great.

Prince is dead and MTV is showing "My Super Sweet 16 Mega Meltdowns"

Time to turn the lights out on humanity, Sign O The Times indeed...

They are not even remembered the next month today never mind a few decades

I remember when we got mtv as a teenager and I just loved when his videos would come on. My granny hated them always muttering they were filth!
Really feel a bit of my youth has been taken much too soon. RIP

I said something similar to my 17 yr old nephew the other day...he agreed, says current music is largely rubbish. He prefers 80s and 90s stuff!

Seen him in malahide a couple of years back... Amazing.

Sometimes it snows in April...A very sad day.

    RIP.

I wasn't the biggest fan of his music, but the man was undeniably a genius. Loved that he used Dave Chappelle as Prince on his single Breakfast Can Wait. Showed the guy had a decent sense of humour as well.

    Devastating news.

I'm organising a group to find Gary Numan and stand guard 24/7.

Rest in Purple Prince. Was listening to this great Actress track where he sampled 'Purple Rain' literally 30 minutes before I heard the sad news. A Great Artist, influenced so many others too
