Today the plan called for 5 miles east with 6 x 45 second strides @ 6.15 pace.

Very busy in work today so couldn't get this done early this morning or at lunch, eventually got out over Seanadh Pheistin after work. Lovely sunny evening for a run, and the view of the Twelve Pins was stunning, fantastic place to run when the sun shines.

Body was very stiff today and I dialled back the pace to recovery. Did the strides in the middle of the recovery miles did them as an out and back run to take the inclines out of the equation. Pace was all over the place but I felt reasonably ok and the muffin belly hangin over my waist band looks like it's had a few bites taken out of it but plenty more work to do on that front!

Did the strides off 30 seconds walked recovery.

    45 Sec paces: 5.45, 5.59, 5.44, 5.34, 5.53, 5,50, 5.59 (did an extra one by mistake)

My consistency will be tested over the next two weeks as I've a couple of long haul trips on the horizon.

5 Miles East? Is the coach specifying the direction now too?

Had to travel to Dublin late last night for early morning meetings. Plan today called for 3/5 mile easy double so I set the alarm for very early this morning to get the first run done but I was wrecked and smacked the alarm off turned over and dreamed about my running date later in the day ;)

Had agreed to meet the King of Rotterdam on the way home. Thought he'd turn up in his Rotterdam t shirt and wearing his medal but no, he appeared outta nowhere with a big grin just as I was changing :)

Lovely run along the canal, the rain held off but I still got wet as it was humid out and scaldy leaks more fluid than an incontinent hippo :) Great auld chat as usual and before we knew it we'd 7 miles easy done at around 9 min pace. Tis amazing how quickly time flies by when you're having a rare auld bitchin fest :) Mightn't have got out at all today if it weren't for you B so thanks.

Got two pieces of bad news today, Tangs 5k is sub 18.50 and my missus said I was fat. Still trying to work out which has me more upset!!

Today the plan called for 2 mile wu/cd with 4x3 mins @ 6.30 pace off 2 mins recovery & 4x1 min @ 6.10 pace off 1 min recovery.

Had hoped to get this done early this morning but had to take the kids to swimming lessons and then had to do a visit to the hospital. I hate hospitals, they give you the willies and make you grateful for your health. When I do eventually shuffle off to the great sub 3 Valhalla in the sky, I hope it happens quick and in my sleep!

Was itching to get out but the kids wanted to see Jungle Book so I was reluctantly dragged off to see that (good movie & fantastic CGI). Then the
missus decided she wanted to eat out and when I eventually got dropped off a few miles from home my guts were a raging cauldron of cola bottles, coke, popcorn and pasta!

Only got 1.75 miles of a warm up done and started into the 6.30 reps, the first 3 of which we up a slight hill. The 6.10 reps were mainly on the downhill but I don't remember much about the run at all as I was concentrating on stopping the toxic concoction in my guts from erupting :)

Hamstring tightened up on the 1.84 mile cool down so I'll have to hit the foam roller later.

    3 min paces: 6.38, 6.24, 6.30, 6.23

    1 min paces: 5.55, 6.01, 5.55, 6.17

I'll have to really get my act together if I'm gonna smack down Tong and his Firebreathin fan club :)

Plan today called for 12 miles easy.

Did an out and back route near Rossaveal, in almost perfect running weather.

Was surprised to see the easy pace dropping with a couple of sub 8 min miles, despite this been the furthest I've run in months, and it was fairly comfortable.

14th straight day running and I'm really hoping to keep the consistency going, but the next two weeks are going to be a big challenge to get the runs in as I'm travelling again with work.

    Tnx K,

I'd tried to copy and paste the one you did last week and then I tried to reply using your post, the data stayed but the table disappeared.

You'll have to make do with a virtual box of chocs till we meet up :)

Today the plan called for 3/5m easy double.

I was heading to Dublin airport this morning so I had great notions of getting the first run done before I left. Set the alarm for 4.30 but unfortunately I don't appear to have Double D's or BnB's dedication or fortitude and when the alarm went off there wasn't even a debate, I turned it off and rolled over. Auld men can't function on 4 hours sleep!

Travelled to Las Vegas via Washington and by the time I got to Vegas I was wrecked and just wanted to hit the sack. I'm staying at the Venetian hotel for a couple of days and like everything in Vegas its huge and way over the top! Most of the big hotels on the strip have some sort of mad attraction as a centrepiece, each trying to outdo the other for the "wow" factor! The MGM grand used to have a pride of lions in a massive glass enclosure near the reception, the Mirage has a man made volcano that erupts nightly from 8pm, the Mandalay Bay has a 1.6 million gallon shark acquarium, the Bellagio has a 8.5 acre lake with over 1,200 dancing water fountains that shoot water over 400 feet into the air! Out front of the Paris hotel is a scale model of the Eiffel Tower, ffs! Don't think any of them can compete with the Travelodge hotel in Galway though, where there are frequent reenactments of war scenes after midnight most weekends :) My hotel was a little underwhelming in that it only had man made canals that you could take a gondola ride through!! Unfortunately the idea of a hotel with an indoor running track doesn't seem to have gained traction just yet!

Despite been shagged and on the go for almost 30 hours straight the thought of my 14 day running streak coming to an end was gnawing away at the back of my mind so I togged out to get a couple of easy miles done. Decided to do it on the hotel treadmill as I'd be able to pull the plug if I felt any worse but it was closed so I did a Nursing Home Special around the strip.

Only managed a slow 3 miles.

I like the Venetian - stayed there twice :) - you didn't mention St Marks Square bang in the middle of the hotel?

I cant imaging running along the strip in LV - too warm, too humid, too tacky................there's a joke in there somewhere.

    Some options for you.

    Today the plan called for 2m wu/cd with 10 x 90 seconds @ 6.15 pace off 1 minute recovery.

Should have slept like the dead last night but I'd a terrible nights sleep and early morning meetings had me as cranky as a bag of Tom cats today! Didn't fancy trying to do the faster stuff on the strip so I'd to find a window to get to the gym before it closed. Maybe it's the time of year but the strip isn't that busy and it wasn't that humid but it's awkward to run along with lots of stops and starts.

The gym is very well equipped and there was even a decent climbing wall but I steered well clear of that as I get the heebee jeebees on a 3 step ladder! The hotels spa is apparently the biggest on the strip with 65 active treatment rooms, and I might try and get a massage tomorrow. Was trying to stay awake by the time I hit the treadmill and after a slow 2 mile warm up I hit the reps. Tough enough little session, managed 5 at 6.15 pace and the last 5 at 6.11 pace. Only got a short cool down done as I had to scoot back to work.

My colleague is going to Elton John who's playing at one of the resorts, and he asked me to go, but I'd rather listen to the Angelus on continuous loop than that plike :)

Hoping to have a bit of free time tomorrow afternoon so might check out some of AMK's trails.

    Total miles 6

Yesterday the plan called for the usual easy day 3/5 mile double.

Early start again yesterday morning meant that I didn't get out till lunch time and at that stage it was baking hot. Managed 4 miles very easy around the strip. The hoped for half day never materialised and I didn't get out at all for a second run. Had a nice, if somewhat ridiculously priced, meal at steakhouse in the Bellagio. Was gonna try the A5 Japanese Wayu steak at 45 bucks but on closer reading it was 45 bucks an ounce! Had a table overlooking the musical fountains which was pretty cool.

My colleague was thinking of going to Britney Spears in Planet Hollywood but was still a little sore after shelling out $320 to see Elton!

    4 easy miles

Today the plan called for 2m wu/cd with 3 x 8 minutes @ 6.40 pace off 3 mins recovery. Was heading home today and if I wanted to get this done I'd to hit the gym when it opened at 6am. Was awake long before that so I got togged out and hit the treadmill. Only had time for a half mile warm and even less on the cool down. The gym was very hot and I really struggled with this. Felt like ****e and my face was getting redder by the minute. Decided I'd only do two reps but once I'd that done I decided to do another 4 mins. Got to the 4 min mark on the last rep and a young wan hoped on the treadmill beside me, momentarily distracting me! Decided to keep going while simultaneously trying to ensure that my sweat slick wasn't drenching her. Happy that I ground it out and finished all 3 reps.

Just over 5 miles for the day.
