Looking very well....nice to have a small car to practice on! Turned out well.

The bonnet and roof were the only parts you would get a bit of a shine the sides and all the rest didnt even reflect anything whatsoever.

It was a breeze to do and I let the rotary do all the work putting no pressure on it. The swirl marks are completely gone.

I finished with the green pad and really happy.

Thanks to all on here for all the great tips and advice and also big thanks to dave at detailingshed.com for the products that made it happen.

After a fallow period of cars I could be bothered detailing I am back baby.....

    6034073

Was in good nick after a long search for one that was low milage and without the interior trim issues that plague the 997. Some stone chips on the font but nothing worth getting resprayed about. Minimal dents. Clear bra intact on sills and arches.

This weekend I gave it a good prewash to remove any old protection. Good wash and clay and sealant. I will work on the panels one by one to remove the swirls. No too bad for a black car, previous owner was not a big washer of the car so not too many swirls. Interior is pristine. Will update as I get the paint in shape.

Well let's be fair.....M5 vs 420d..................the math does itself :pac:

Awesome car Moe. My boss is searching for a GT3 RS in red at the moment. Can't wait to see what he picks up!

    Well duh!!

But I never mentioned the exact model in the post, so some would think perhaps 520d v 420d! ;)

The M5 was an awesome machine and I held it for ages, (had a 645ci before that, and a 335i before that so I have earned my BMW badge of honour) , so expensive to run, amazingly thursty, not great or dramatic at legal speeds, but above that it was like a starship. The 420d was all the car you could even want, no real downsides but I never felt the urge to detail it, or go out for a blast round the sally gap. Sold it and didnt loose much money, I totally took a break for a few months and drove a mazda 6 estate and promised myself something special again.

Decided I had enough BMW and needed something different and exciting. As some of you may know I am obsessed with cars being OEM, clean and perfect in everyway (on this forum maybe thats par for the course) I am holding off final judgement on the 911. So far I am in love, very dramatic, great handling, terrific noise.

Curran you can see I got some stuff from you the other night, need to replenish my supplies they are pathetic at the moment. Must drop out to the shop some saturday and have a mooch, need advice on some polishing pads.

GT3 RS thats on another level, awesome machine.

Over the last two days I done a bit with the e39 that I just bought.
    - De-tarred.
    - Clayed.

I gave it a good run with an orange Hexlogic pad and Menzerna FG300, that's my most potent mashup. I tried lesser but was getting nowhere really.
I had time constraints so I will visit it again, it's 90% better!

I done a couple of passes on a black Hexlogic and with Menzerna SF4000.
Maybe this is overkill on my paint but I am always afraid of leaving a haze from the previous cutting pad.

Anyway, I sealed it with Collinite 845 as usual and here is the result!

NCT is tomorrow and I cannot see a reason it won't pass!

Damn you, fitzgeme. I hadn't been on Carzone ONCE since I got the 635. This isn't a whole deal more!! http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/porsche/911/used-2005-983571983515-dublin-fpa-200914539059185190

Nice E39 YbFocus - they are a great car - any more info on it? Mileage and spec?

She's an original Irish msport, 520i so the 2.2.
130k miles, glacier green in colour.
Got it for a steal, they make no money anymore!

    Interior is my favourite...

    She looks fairly clean!

Mines a 525i, with 131k on it, black on black!
Yeah, they are going for small money - thats the problem....kind of in two minds to change until you see what you'd get for it!

Looked at that one Mark, it is in very poor condition, interior is a mess, paintwork is a mess, engine and running gear are very loose, odd knocking somewhere in the rear, needs new rubber all round, alloys need refurb, no sports chrono (no sports exhaust, no sport button), much better one out in Beshoffs round that money. Lovin the big 6 Mark, you have her clean

I honestly felt like I was robbing the man to be honest, broke his heart to let it go!

All your posting and I don't think I ever seen a photo of it Curran :)

Fitzgeme, that car is stunning. Congratulations and best of luck with her.

I didn't want to post without adding some detailing chat, and almost forgot I did this today. Some prick a while back hit my mother's car in a car park and she came back to find it like this with no details left behind. Really pissed me off people doing crap like that. Here's how it was left:
    59x1jc.jpg

Only got around to it today with the DA and it's like 99% back to how it was. The scratch is gone and there is only a slight dimple left on the wheel arch. She's delighted now as it was annoying her more than she was letting on I'd say. Iv no after picture but will take one next time I get a chance.

Thats because it rarely sees a wash of late, given Im that busy with life in general.
It used to be kept absolutely spotless....alas, kids put a stop to that! :( :P

Fusso topped with Klean Freaks Detailer is fast becoming one of my favorite combos!

Thought you were planning to strip it back?

Damn you YB, an E39 is an itch that just won't go away! Is yours as clean as it looks body wise?

There's 4 or 5 bits that need fixing.
Mostly PDR so it'll be easy enough sorted.

I can confirm they are worth it, i had an e60 and its not a patch on this e39!

It's been a long time since I was in here. The GTI certainly hasn't gotten half the love I spent on the E90, but I've enjoyed not worrying about it half as much , at least to an extent. I reckon the car has never been properly corrected in its life, so not worried too much about proper technique for the meantime until that happens. I did go over it recently with SRP, a couple of coats of AG HD and have been keeping on top of it since with Auto Finesse's Glisten. It's far from perfect, but has good gloss the panels are straight which is most important. I am looking forward to seeing it full corrected though...

    Those calipers are beautiful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,633 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

How hard/easy were those upgrade d brakes and cost.
    Looks savage.

Makes me feel bad running standard octavia vrs and my alloys badly need a refurb.

    Gti looks amazing.

    Paddy,

Those brakes are immense. I love the sharp edges (90* corners if that makes sense) on the caliper. Also the tiny clearance between the caliper and the wheel is class. Reminded me of looking closely at an Agera R's front brakes last year. Couldn't find a photo online, but they have a small little piece of metal that guards the caliper from dirt/stones on the inside of the wheel. The gap between the caliper and wheel is absolutely tiny. The guard had some dirt/stones caught in it and they were scratching the lacquer on the carbon wheels.

Here's a link for more info on the brakes.
