Removing Diesel stain from tarmac

Car spilled a lot of diesel over tarmac on drive. It left a big stain. I powerhosed the diesel away the next day (after rain) but stain remains. I tried washing up liquid, detergent but the stain remains. Looks like diesel melted tarmac so that patch is much darker than the rest of the drive.

Any ideas?

Try Phoning some of the Tarmac companies like Kilsaren etc and ask them. I'm sure they would have come across this problem before. But I think your only options are a fresh paint on top coat to uniform the appearance or cut out the damaged area and replace. But it's worth a phone call first.

Pour a load of washing powder on the stain and leave it a few days. If you have a power washer use it to clean it after maybe 3 days, if not use a yard brush and water.

You can buy a proprietary product 'Woodies' and elsewhere. I used a few and all worked.

The problem I have is the diesel is gone so none of these products are designed for fixing it, they usually just remove diesel/oil. It seems to be the tarmac itself thats changed colour.

I did put powdered detergent on part of it last week and left it and that bit seems to have helped so will try more of that.

Are you sure the diesel is gone? You can still see the rainbow effect which suggests there is still some oil there?

If you have or can borrow a power washer this will move it ( use the Lance attachment ), good luck!
