    Obviously a lie then.

Nope. Just not answering. Ireland is a small place.

Yep, and it's normally easy enough to spot the difference between a sneaky one and someone who doesn't know where they are going (you can see the panic :D ) chancers get blocked (especially taxi ****) idiots who can't read a road sign get let in, simples ;)

A 03 Micra will not let you in, a few more scratches won't make any difference. The trick is to choose a nice shiny new 161 Audi or Merc and test that driver ;)

what annoys me more is the fecker 3 or 4 cars ahead of you who lets the sneaky pricks in. its even more satisfying when they try to force their way in and a good few cars stay close together and leaves the little fckuer hanging in the outside lane. And this is what happens when the sneaky driver gets cocky

If I was blocked for a few hours on the motorway after that happened I wouldn't be looking at either driver in a good light tbh. Sometimes you need to let go of the ego and let idiots be idiots, otherwise you risk becoming one yourself.

Yep,agree, but it's hard at times, we all get caught up in the madness at times,I try my best to be an OK driver, but sometimes the middle finger goes up ,know it's wrong, but it happens,I feel extremely foolish later on.

I've done that myself in the past (gave undercover gard the finger) but experience has now taught me just let it go and live and let live.

too many idiots on the road to be getting the blood pressure up, in that video example id know he was wrong but id just let him in.

    it's really not worth it.

Taught a valuable lesson to a tosser who should have got in lane in time instead of doing the big fella. If the hundreds at this craic on the M50 every day got the same lesson then we'd all be better off.

Yes. Bringing the M50 to a standstill multiple times per day would certainly have us all better off..

    Good grief.

Seriously, it's a road. It's not the western front where thou shalt not yield...

In the long run it would, make them think twice the next time. Only a couple would be tips anyway, the rest would be those beautiful moments where you force them to the next junction.

Though actually enforcing against the last minute lane changes would too, but that'd be too simple a solution.

Good luck with your road safety campaign.

Happened me this morning, M1 southbound, swords, where you join onto the old swords dual carriageway and 3 lanes merge to two. some scroat girl in a hyundai coupe levelled with me as i was letting someone else merge, then forced me to back off at the merge, cut across my nose with no indicator, straight into the inside lane cutting up someone else then got stuck behind a bus before forcing her way back out again. stupid muppet. i let her in, but was livid, beeped, gave the finger ... immediately felt stupid on top of angry. its not worth it. TBH if she hadn't been such a tw@t and indicated, id have let her in anyway.

In fact. i hope shes reading this.

    YOU ARE A TW@T.

She probably isnt, but I feel better nonetheless.

None of those moments would occur. The type of drivers changing lane at the last minute are the same type that would come to a complete standstill in order to make an exit despite the traffic behind them.

Anecdotal but one of those moments did occur for me a few weeks ago. :)
Leaving the M50 Southbound at the Cherrywood exit, I saw a car closing fast behind me as I approached the exit.
There were a couple of trucks in front of me in the M50 driving lane southbound not exiting, doing 80-90.
Male driver, not old, car's performance was being well used. Rather than wait a couple of seconds and go past me on one of the 2 exit lanes, he made a quick lane change and went back out into the overtaking lane.
I guessed that he would skip ahead of the next truck and duck in between the 2 trucks to join the exit lane ahead of me.
So I stayed in the outer exit lane and moved up myself to the gap between the 2 trucks and then matched their speed.
A couple of seconds later he cut in between the trucks from the overtaking lane but that was as far as he could go. He didn't stop. Last seen heading south.

    Childish? Yes.
Dangerous? I don't think so, all happened around 80-90 on a motorway and he would have made all those maneuvers anyway regardless of my position.
Did he learn anything from it? Almost certainly not.
Did I regret it? Not a bit. Some of the stuff I do on the road I think afterwards that was stupid. But not this time.
Will I get criticized on here for this? Almost certainly. But I'm going to unfollow the thread after this post so post away :D

What if it was a genuine mistake and it was your own prejudice that led to you assuming they were 'doing the big fella'?

Generally being a muppet doesn't teach other muppets how to behave. Muppets will continue to be muppets - all that happens here is that someone 150m behind you probably thinks "look at that tit - stay back from them" or worse, some other fool will attempt to teach you from doing the big policing fella.

Sorry I mean - yeah fu(k em - that will sort em!

Using multiple lanes is for losers

Some of the rules for Irish roads if you didn't read them:
    • Stay in overtaking lane at all times, no matter what time day/weather/speed.
    • If not possible to stay in overtaking lane then make sure to block up middle lane
    • All other lanes contain the devil
    • Drive at massive speed and leave no distance between you and car in front, space in front of car is where the devil lives
    • If foggy then close the gap between you and car in front, the devil uses fog to get you
    • If you see a car coming onto the motorway, block them. The devil is driving the car
    • Stuck in traffic, do not let any car move in or out of your lane, it is the devil
    • Back roads and single lane roads, drive faster as the devil is chasing you at all times
    • If you see a crash, swerve all over the place to get a look, you might see the devil
    • If you see yellow box at junction, park in it and block other traffic, this will stop the devil
    • If you see an amber light, floor it, the devil will get you at the light
That is some of the laws, just to give you some idea's

Also please beware, the devil is on a road near you
    • If the car in front indicates and begins to move into the lane to the left or right, immediately do so yourself. The devil is in that car and if you crash into it your soul will go straight to heaven
    • If the car behind indicates and begins to move into the lane to the left or right, again, immediately do so yourself. The devil is driving that car and blocking its progress is an act of selfless bravery
    • Approaching a green light, drive at least 15Kpm below the speed limit for at least the final 200m. Maintain this speed as the light turns amber, timing you arrival precicely for the red light, and then proceed slowly through the junction. The devil and his minions occupy the cars behind, and you will have temporarily escaped their evil pursuit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,130 ✭✭✭nomdeboardie

    • On arriving first at a red light, check for a painted box with a symbol after the stop line. Although it has the form of bicycle, it is the sign of the devil and you should drive forward and cover it completely to avoid looking at it. If afraid to stay there, you may drive farther and block the junction for turning buses (which ae driven by the devil). Under no circumstances wait on top of the faint grid of tar lines - this is said to contain a traffic sensor, but is in fact a trapdoor to hell

As someone who is in Cork a fair bit (and does the M50 every weekday), I have to agree that the driving standards down south are far worse.

Just last weekend I exited the tunnel approaching Mahon to find a rolling roadblock in front of me and cars swerving all over the place.. why? Some dopey young one doing about 60 km/h in the outside lane
The weekend before that I was coming off at the city exit and looping under the mainline only to have some youngfella with an L plate cut across me from the left lane.
The Douglas exit always reminds me of the M50-N7S one.. piss-poor design but the muppetry is more pronounced.
No-one bloody indicates either and it's infuriating, whether it's on the main roads or roundabouts.

Say what you will about the M50 but the Cork equivalent is far worse in my experience. The only issues I generally encounter on the M50 are volume related or the occasional tailgating asshat - but those can be dealt with too if you need to.
