I originally got one congratulations email for my first order, and then 14/15 hours later I received a price error email for my secon order - around the same time as everyone else.

I never received a congratulations email for my price error order like everyone else did, and I haven't received anything else for my first order either but the status has changed to:
Status: Invalid Order ID: FXXXXXXXXXXY Payment Method: Paypal Shipping Method: Standard Shipping with tracking number(Airmail)
Back to Order List Submit A Messages
Order Tracking Click here to know delivery period

The tracking number will be sent to you shortly.

No matter how many emails we get, I think it's safe to assume this whole thing has been a massive cock up and it's unlikely any of us are going to get anything.

It's not a cock up, it's exactly what they wanted.

Loads of new subscribers for their newsletter.

Oh, yeah.. I'm aware that they may have 'mispriced' on purpose, (They did the same thing less than a month ago with another item), and a year ago with a range of crappy phones, ranging in price from €8 - €35.
But for every item ordered, they sent out a stackable coupon for €1.50.

This seems to be a cock up in the aftermath, the mixup with the emails etc...

Jokes on them, didn't subscribe to any newsletter :)

Maybe I'm getting this wrong, I can't see how it is deliberate, I assume most people pay by paypal. To pay for an item with paypal is fine but the seller gets charged with paypal fees for receiving money. To reverse it probably will be the same (fees) and for them make up to the same amount (i.e. you are not losing out), don't they have to pay twice? Granted the value is low relatively speaking, still don't see much benefit of deliberately misprice just to gain a small pool of new subscriber.

I don't see any "delete my account" option on the site. Or a "don't send me spam" preference.

I tried to change my email address to a makey-uppy one (my apologies to LeaveMeAlone@hotmail.com), but it needs validation.

Hopefully the first spammy email will have an unsubscribe" link that works!

They would have protection on their end too. There is no way they'd be paying paypal for this, there was thousands of people signed up for it. It would have been a massive pool of new subscribers which would be quite valuable itself.

If they don't have an unsubscribe link in the email report them as spam to your email provider, then block them.

I too get the status invalid error.

    Now to await the refunds!

Will they refund us automatically or are we going to have to nag them? I'm a bit worried I'll have to nag them since I didn't even get a cancellation email from them. Order status showing as invalid though.

I don't remember my password for the site, I clicked the forgotten password option but link they sent me to reset my password doesn't work. So I basically have no way of even contacting them. Might just have to open a paypal dispute if they don't refund automatically. How long should refunds generally take?

Go into your PayPal account and into the transaction history. In the transaction details there should be an option to contact the seller through PayPal. It is basically the same as opening a dispute though. I think that is the only way it works, but at least it gives you a communications route to them. I'll probably be doing it myself tomorrow if money isn't refunded.

I don't know whether to believe them or if it was just a cheap sign up scam to get emails.

    That's what I suspect too.
If you think about it, these are e-mails that they know are active PayPal users, engaged in online shopping. Surely these kind of addresses would be more valuable if you are selling them on to mailing list harvester?

Also if they have got thousands of people's money sitting in their accounts for up a fortnight, would they be able to transfer this money from PayPal into a deposit account and earn interest for those two weeks?

I don't think that they ever actually received the money. Paypal would be holding it.
They would be most likely harvesting information, and trying to promote their site.
    The names/addresses and emails etc..
It's very unlikely they whole site had a bug on just one product. They might have planned on a misprice, stopping it at xxxx amount and gave everyone a coupon, but something went skeeways and that's what's going on with the emails and confirmed/cancelled notifications etc..

Looked at HUKD and lots of people either messaging them threatening them with PayPal or simply going direct to PayPal. I've just done both. Can someone explain to me why it would take so long to issue refunds? It's all electronic no? You simply click a button?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,541 ✭✭✭duridian

No refund here yet. I escalated the dispute to a PayPal claim last night as I feel this has been nothing but a farce from start to finish.
Bugs in our website... Bugs in our email server...
    Bah! Cock and bull stories.

I bought a tablet off them a couple of years ago and they sent me a complete piece of junk with pretty every part of it a lesser spec than advertised. Their customer service initially seemed like they'd be helpful, but gave me the runaround for weeks with increasingly nonsensical suggestions, before starting to go around in circles. Ultimately got a refund from Paypal after opening a dispute. I wouldn't trust a word they say, they're seriously dodgy.

Just went through the paypal claim.
I will never be using them again, some websites like aliexpress etc are pretty easy to deal with in my experience and good about coming back to you if any issues...this one is abysmal.
