Help with outfit for communion function

I'm invited to a communion in a few weeks time. I don't do dresses and skirts - I own one. I usually wear black pants and a fancy top for going out or functions. Recently I bought a skirt and I like it but was advised against it and was told it doesn't suit me so I will be returning it. I will need to go again searching for something to wear because I don't own a lot of going out clothes.

I'm 5ft 4 in height, a size 20 in clothes with an apple shaped body. Any ideas what I could go for.

I've been having a look at some tunics online like on oxendales and some Joe Browns tunics but unfortunately I can't put in a link or two because I'm not a member of boards long enough. Maybe tomorrow night I might be a member long enough to put in a link.

Teaming with some black leggings. How would a tunic and leggings look? Would I look pregnant because of my size?

Or should I go with the faithful black pants and fancy top for the day - will need to find a new fancy top though. I like kimonos a lot so maybe I can go that route.

They are all nice but I don't think the first one is appropriate for communion. I think the last one might be nicer with navy or blue leggings.

I love the one with the peacock print, really quirky and as above, would look good with navy or dark blue leggings (maybe even jeggings/skinny jeans?). I'd try it with a pair of lightweight, wide legged white linen trousers for summery days too.
I like the one with the rose print too, it would be very versatile.
Wouldn't be a fan of the first, blue one, the fabric doesn't look great quality to me and I'm not crazy about the shape of it around the bust. Personal choice I guess!

How tall are you OP? I'd question wearing leggings depending on how long the tunics are.

If they are long enough they might look better with tights as opposed to leggings ending at your ankle and cutting you off and making you appear shorter and heavier then you are?

Trousers/tights underneath would negate that.

I meant how long the tunics were

OP is fairly short, so wearing leggings and cutting off 2-3 inches off her height compared to tights would imo make a big difference to how an outfit would look

I don't think those tunics would work with tights. That being said my preferred choice would be trousers.

It's hard to tell how long they are true, I'd definitely go with trousers rather than leggings

I'm having difficulty choosing between the rose print and peacock print. The rose print is made from viscose and the peacock print from cotton and I prefer cotton or natural material so I'm siding with that but still haven't made up my mind. If I can't decide by the end of the day I might go for the two of them and pick one for the day. I see oxendales have a 3 for 2 on Joe browns tops. I'm tempted to go for the two of them and I find another.

The rose printed tunic is 34 inches. I got the measuring tape out and it would come up to an inch or two above my knee. It's made from viscose so I think it might be too light to be worn as a dress but that's probably just my preference.

The peacock print is a nice length at 31 inches.

The sleeves on the rose print may be more flattering than the sleeveless peacock print, also more suitable if you're going to the church?

Oh that's really pretty! I've ordered from them before, last time I think delivery was within a week but I really can't remember with any certainty.. I don't remember it taking too long, maybe others here know?

I like the last two Joe Brown tunics (don't like the first one). My favourite is the rose one and I agree with Stheno - definitely go for narrow white trousers. It would look far better and more classy than leggings. I saw lovely linen trousers in Next recently http://ie.nextdirect.com/en/g318s3#410741.

Finish it all with a nice bag and you'll be fab

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered the rose print tunic and a plain white camisole top to go under it because I had a feeling it might be a bit low cut. Items arrived this morning and they are lovely. Tried them on and it's a good thing I got the camisole. They fit well and look nice and I don't look pregnant in the top. Delighted with them. I have nice shoes as well so hopefully they will be comfy on the day. Will hopefully order a pants on next.ie tonight and will wear pop socks. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to buy a new handbag so I will be borrowing a bag of my mam.
