redhat ftp install - specifying proxy server

Need to do an ftp install of redhat on a machine that is behind a proxy server. How do I specify the proxy server in the redhat installer?

Which version do you want 7.3, 8 or 9?

7.3 is fine for a server environment (as long as you keep it updated, but if you want to use it as a desktop then you can go for 8 or if you are mad you can go for 9. I upgraded to 9 and it caused huge problems as the glibc update for redhat 9 is messed up.

Anyway....back to the question..If you choose 8 then you need to build a boot disk (using rawwritewin.exe or the linux dd command) with:
ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/8.0/en/os/i386/images/bootnet.img

If you want redhat 9 then you need two boot disks:
ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/9/en/os/i386/images/bootdisk.img
and
ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/9/en/os/i386/images/drvnet.img

AAAHHHH!

I have just looked at your post again....sorry....I cant help with the proxy server...can you not bypass it for the installation?

So setup a PC with a connection to the proxy - add AnalogX and share from there

No - It does not solve your problem of how you specifiy a Proxy during the install - but it does mean you have full control over ports/sockets (provided the original proxy allows such stuff out)

Or you could use NAT on a firewall to transfer all requests a local FTP port to the one you want... - technically doable - but messy
