Garda vetting .....how effective is it?

The Trim arms seizure perps have been up in court and one of them has worked for the HSE for the past number of years .....with 'special needs' children.

He should have been vetted very stringently one would suppose, but he must have 'fell through the cracks' somehow.

So, how good is the vetting procedure?

It's a joke. it relies on the person filling it in, doing so honestly. if you have something to hide will you be honest? changes happening in the coming months though

I will just give you my experience of it. I did a Tus scheme a few years ago. I was working in a creche. I was in the office. But I was the only male among a team of women in the building. The forms were filled out.....the manager kept asking me about it......time and time again. It was at the stage where prime time were after doing the programme on the creche in Dublin. Still no vetting back for me. The lady from the health board done a few visits to the creche, and they said it was ok that I was there, because some of the employees knew me and could vouch for me. To be fair, I could have been a complete fecker, and I was still allowed to stay in a creche for a year.

How would any vetting be able to predict if someone would be in to the transportation of arms?

They have a tendency to fcuk it up if you have even the slightest history. Sent off my forms last year and the report came back with offences i had never even committed,trying to appeal it,awaiting the outcome still. Cost me the job as a result.

Probation at 18. Now in the 30's. Was charged with 1 other offence after that. State withdrew the charge and it still shows.

Seems odd that the nursing home could be prosecuted for revealing personal information to someone about themselves.Surely they'd already be aware of it.

That part i find odd i agree. Even though legislation was introduced after these cases there are still cracks in the system. Here is the current legislation they are supposed to go by.
