Any idea how much I would get for a 4 month old S6 on trade-in to Vodafone ? I want to the get the S7, trying to figure out the cheapest way to get it

Just picked up an S7 on prepay with three and I can confirm they can be unlocked with imei number despite what they tell you. No one else would sell me a sim free one so had to buy a Three branded one.

How much did the handset cost you and how did you get it unlocked?

    Thanks!

On the data settings where you set the warning, data cap, data cycle etc.. is there anywhere to enter how much data you have used since your billing cycle started.

For example my data cycle is from 15th to 14th of every month. I have used 2gb's already (according to mobile provider); but as I only got the phone yesterday it starts at 0gb. It would be great if there was a setting where i can manually enter that there is 2gb used already. Many apps let you do this. But I'd rather not bother with an app if android can track it.

Also - I noticed on Vodafone the only real bloat 'system apps' you can't remove are the office apps. No facebook or other rubbish. I was wondering for those you have installed the BTU firmware what apps come with that ?

I wonder would this apply to the edge too? Which eBay seller did you use & how long did it take to get the code? Was there much 3 bloat on it? Thanks

Well I chose the s7 over the edge because I didn't like the way the screen curves. Having had the s4 and s5. So yes I would assume it would be the same. There was 4 or 5 Three apps which I've uninstalled and the Three logo appears when you reboot but that's it. I ordered the unlock code at 5pm and had it at lunchtime the following day. Despite Three insisting their pre pay handsets cannot be unlocked. I can pm you the eBay seller if you wish.

That's all good thanks. I have to agree with you on the edge - phone is for my wife though. She's on a 3 business sim only plan anyway but likes to buy her phones outright & unlocked.

I can't get 'ok google' to work.....yer one says 'this internet connection isn't stable at the moment'. click retry and it works fine. happens on 4g and wifi. Not sure what's going on but its complete crap and never had an issue with 'ok google' or 'siri' on iPhone.

Also, does Doze work on the S7 ? I assume you have to disable AOS. Thanks.

<edit> ok google working now, only on wifi. android on tap also working though don't see it's value yet.

Thanks it works fine for me.

'Ok Google' never works in 4G. Tells me 'interest connection not stable' which is load of rubbish. Only works in Wifi. Also wondering if there is much battery drain having it listening out all the time.

Some say it drains battery as the mics are active. Others say its minuscule as they are only active when the screen is active but with AOD I guess that is a lot. Might test it out at some point. I also found 'On Tap' pretty chaotic and not consistent with the contextual results it displays when you hold the home button down so it scans your screen.

For now I have 'ok google' turned off no I don't see the point of it, if you can't use it when driving if it's not going to work with 4G seeing as when I'm in a wifi hotspot I will likely be in a cafe or somewhere where I just hand operate the phone. Looking at the google support forums it's seems to be an issue that turns up a lot and usually to do with a problem with a google update.

Overall it's a letdown. Siri was miles more reliable.

By the way, is there any noticeable lag if you change themes in the samsung store. Was an issue for some with the S6 last year and needed a factory restore to sort.

How do you turn off OK Google? Never use it and probably never will

I use ok google om my HTC M9 and works perfect on 4G

Not a phone issue but a google issue that pops up from time to time.
In my case though it wasn't even a google issue but a dumb-assery issue.
I usually disable background data for almost everything, but apparently turning off background data for voice search stopped the command from connecting to the internet, even though I could manually click the mic symbol and it would work. Turned it back on and all working now. :D

Overall happy with phone. Had one major issue today and had to clear the cache to solve it. I was using the stock file manager 'My Files' to copy some stuff from google drive to my local storage. The app doesn't keep the phone awake and when the always on screen tried to kick in while files were copying, the phone started to lag then the screen froze. Home button became unresponsive and I was able to restart by holding down the power button for ages. Repeated this twice so not a fluke. Just cleared cache later and didn't see it freeze again but when the AOD display kicked in the file copy stopped (despite wifi set to stay awake when screen off). Clearly My Files app is a POS.

Anyone recommend a decent file manager with cloud access. Amazing is good but not cloud access I can see, and ES File Explorer seems to be riddled with ad's this days. Will give astro, solid and a couple of others a go I suppose.

Yeah have mine rooted and using Renovate rom. You can root from this thread here...

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/sm-g935-exynos-cf-auto-root-t3337354

You need the Samsung phone drivers for pc but once you have that its pretty easy as long as you follow the instructions.
Follow the steps to rooting from here

    https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/

Make sure download an official firmware that way if there is a case where something goes wrong you can flash the official firmware through Odin. For instance my phone is Italian S7 edge but the BTU firmware works fine.

Cool. Does rooting trip Knox and if you have warranty issues and re-flash back to known good firmware (say BTU) which restores root - is you warranty void ?

Also - I assume you won't get updates from either carrier (if you have stock) or Samsung anymore (if you have BTU) once you root. Or do updates stop when you create custom recovery and/or flash new firmware ?

    Thanks

    Bit frustrated here

Been working away from the office the last few days and using the S7 (on Three network*) as a mobile hotspot. Here's my problem: The phone will display the '4G' signal but when I go to set up the hotspot it almost always drops the '4G' for 'H' and then Edge. In normal use it does periodically drop 4G as you'd expect on any network. But I find when I setup the hotspot and connect my laptop to it the phone seems to drop 4G very soon after.

And when the wifi hotspot is running on '4G' the speeds are crap... Download Speed of 1.34Mbps, Upload Speed of 0.36Mbps. Are is that normal?

Anyone else having issues using it as a wifi hotspot?

*Phone is on PAYG with Three with all you can eat 4G data.
