Just wondering if anyone has had any experience using celebrant from getmarried.ie? Just looking for an independent reassurance! Only reviews I can find are on pages where the website is advertised, perhaps I'm overly skeptical!

Just so you know, a generic celebrant does not perform legal marriages. They're mainly used to perform a ceremony in front of family/friends if you get married in the registry office before/after.
Hope you get back input on the site, haven't come across it before.

Yes, get married.ie claim to perform the legal aspect too, meaning no need for the registry office, hence the attraction!

I see their celebrant is Gerry Byrne of Victory Centre Fellowship fame.

Yep, that's the kind of thing I was looking for! Thanks. I had thought it was too good to be true...back to the drawing board!

There is the option of an interfaith minister?

We are getting one for our wedding :) They can perform the full wedding legally.

Sorry, hadn't looked at their website. Just went with the mention of a celebrant in the OP.
I'd a look there for his name, Gerry Byrne, in the HSE list of solemnisers and that name's not on it: http://www.welfare.ie/en/downloads/Register_of_Solemnisers.xls

Not that it matters to me now, but it is actually there. Number 5813 on the list. The inter faith option is something I'll have to look at closer I think.

Never heard ot a celebrant doing the legal as well. My understanding was that it had to be a staff memeber authorised to perform legal weddings

We're going interfaith too. Just been to registrars office to do notification last week and all was in order so we got issues with certificate for the day. There are celebrants who do a ceremony as others have pointed out. When we were looking into options we considered them as there are reputable ones for after a civil ceremony for the legal bit, but cost was similar to interfaith who could do legal bit. We have met our minister and she has crafted a unique ceremony and has allowed us to incorporate personal touches we couldn't have otherwise. Pm if you want details, I saw good feedback on our minister before picking her. Friday and weekend slots book well in advance though, something to be mindful of. Humanist is another option if their views fit for you. I think they tend to book up even more quickly as people are more aware of them as an option, or certainly were when we were researching early 2015.

Ah brilliant :) Ours is Galway based and she seems lovely so far. We aren't getting married until summer next year but I heard they book up fast!

Did you get things to fill out about your relationship and expectations/ hopes etc for married life? :D

Oh yea, we started but haven't shared what we wrote with each other yet. Bit strange as we've done it all back to front, been together so long the registrar added us to their list of longest together before getting married.we were beaten only by a couple getting married after around 30 years! How are you getting on with the questions? We're being honest do already know we'll have to edit a lot before we send them to the minister!

    Wow that's amazing :)

We still haven't started yet!! Hubby to be is in the middle of exams so he's up to his tonsils. I'm hoping to get cracking on mine soon but I have had a good read of it so far.

My understanding is the minister then uses these to create the ceremony am I right? We hope to meet ours over the Summer :)

We met and talked through options/ what we thought we'd like and the ministers ideas. Then she emailed us a ceremony with lots of options to choose from eg. Readings, hand tying etc. We are now taking time to gradually tweak it to make it our own. Once we met in person she seemed to get an idea of what we'd like the day to be and provided lots of pointers and tips. I think they can write the whole thing, or let you be as involved as you want. Ours lent us books with lots of ideas. I found Google great for ideas for vows, readings and songs. Tho we're not exactly conventional. Was doing exams myself not that long ago, don't envy ya. The stess impacts everyone. It will be over and book a night or two away where you can write your answers and share them. Getting away was great for us to spend time sorting loads of the wedding bits them comming home much more relaxed.

    Our hotel recommended him
I didn't go with him because when I emailed him to enquire all I got was an email back saying this is the deposit this is how you pay. Seemed very money orientated
    Thats the impression I got
