So have you ever gone on a flutter and won decent cash? How much was it?

I never really gamble as a general rule but I remember going to a work night out at the grayhound races a few years back with €50 to bet on and coming out with about €300 - happy out at the time.

All the time. But then, I used to be a bookie.

Most ever won was a €20 @ €20/1 on Liverpool to win the Champions League after they qualified for the knockout stages in 2005. I only put the bet on to wind up a friend of mine.

Won a grand on €50 bet few year ago. Gave it back to them over the next few weeks in ambitious bets.

don't think I've ever won money in gambling that I didn't immediately lose afterwards. A mate of mine just won over €6000 on a football accumulator from a €5 bet!

Won 10k five years ago today on a lucky 15 at Cheltenham. I've been trying to reproduce it since and have failed.

Today is no exception so far.

I won €60 on a €6 bet at the dogs once. the night in general cost me about €80 so minimized the loss.

I'm far too nervous to gamble anything bigger than a tenner anyway and I've only a passing interest in sport so I'll never make much at this rate :D

Now if I could bet whether or not my code will compile, I'd be pretty rich from betting negatively :D

€1200 from a €100 stake once. Treated myself with half of it and saved the other half.

$1250 on a nag, the mate assured me it was a cert fein some insider info he got, so rammed 250 on the nose. The bookies are still up from me over the years though.

Been doing the lotto since it was introduced, never win much more than a couple of hundred on it.

Mate of mine started with 50 in his account one night on Paddy Powers. Got it up to something like 14k and cashed out.

Only €370 on a €5 accum in soccer. I was always afraid to punt higher amounts despite having decent returns with lower stakes.

I would make a decent amount if I had a PP account no doubt, but my wife would divorce me. And take half of it.

I won about €500 on a 1st goalscorer trixie last January. Problem is, I didn't! I was due back about €25 because one selection won and the other was deemed a non-runner, but your one handed me a wad of fifties. Happy days, yeah? No. I felt horrible. I hung around the shop for about an hour, and then left and came back that very day. I gave her every chance to correct her mistake - if she even knew it was a mistake I don't know - but she never did.

Of course, I didn't feel bad enough to give it back myself. Gamblers are eejits when it comes to justifying things, and I justified that by saying something like 'I've given Paddy Power thousands over the years, so I'm hardly going to not take this opportunity to get him back'.

She's still there to this day, and I've since given all that back and a few thousand more, so it all worked out well.

400 playing poker. But I don't think that counts.

€1400 on a 13 cent football accumulator is the most I've ever won, do three or four of them every week and it's very rare that they come through! Happy days when they do though.

Very pleased to win €120 on an e/w dbl on Cheltenham yesterday. 1 winner, 1 2nd!

Few hundred on the nags and machines. Though overall I'm well down and I'm not a big gambler so f knows what these ones in at the bookies every day have lost.

I've won bigger amounts gambling on other things like the stock market but don't think that counts.

Anyway the only way to actually win at gambling imo at horses, football, the dogs etc is to be very lucky with a big win and then leave the scene, or have insider knowledge that gives you an advantage over the bookies.

Both are rare and the bookies have enough regular mugs, sorry punters to more than make up for any anomalies.

Any regular gamblers I have ever known are very quick to tell of their wins, but never tell of their numerous losses.

The bookies always wins in the end. Few quid at the grand national and a few other races, footie etc no big deal if you doing it for a bit of interest.

Anything more serious, where you always seem to waiting on one more team/horse to come in with a desperate look on your face and asking to borrow money for a pint until the race then you need to have a look at yourself.

£250 punt on a poker machine.. I stuck in a fiver and got a royal with 5 on

£90 from a £6 bet at the dogs, the one and only time I ever went to the dogs.

The poker machines were the biggest waste of time and money now that I think of it.

£2 accumulator on 5 teams to win their divisions on 1995 returned just under £800, which as a student at the time was an amazing amount of money.

1800 and everything up to it basically. I don't seem to bet anymore though.
There is few hundred in my PP account for last 6 months , just sits there.
    I can't explain it.

I picked 6 horses for a race meeting at Southwell about 8 or 9 years ago. The bet type was a heinz and won around €2k.

9 years ago when in uk, had conversation with a farming friend about weather. He said he was expecting very heavy rain the following morning and way more than the few showers expected hence he was going to be up working at 4am.

Couple of hours later listening to radio about Ascot and they were saying some horse called Indian ink would love a muddy track, but forecast was only for light rain.

25/1, put £200 on it, pissed down from about 1pm, track was heavy by 3.30 off, he went off 5/1 and won by 2 miles. (ok. it was about 20 lengths)

It was a phenomenal feeling as I'm not a betting person.

5 grand is a fair lift. It is really bizarre though that you as a non betting type would lump 200 squid on a single race though. That's crazy money to bet on a single race (and on the nose I assume)

Won about a grand on Stephen's day a few years back which was nice as Christmas had left me broke.

What this thread needs is a few contributions from posters with links to their betting tips in their sigs, they'd have some crazy made up winning stories.

I only bet 4 times a year on golf majors, normally €10 over a few players. Remember winning €150 on Thomas Bjorn a good few years ago, think it was a €1ew bet.

Have wine a few hundred here and there on the horses.

Picked up a large bet when I was a lot younger after the bookie at the track got my ticket mixed up with someone else's. Also won a bit on the dogs after I got my numbers wrong.

Before the 2014 WC, I asked paddy power for odds on Italy and Uruguay both the beat England and Suarez and Balotelli to score, they never got back to me

Every year for the last 15 years I have a €100 bet with a mate on who will finish higher in the league, United or Liverpool.
Needless to say that's been fairly lucrative when you add it up, could be in doubt this season though :pac:

Had Wigan to beat Liverpool either 1-0 or 2-1 at 33/1 a few years back, can't remember what I had on it though.

Won €1200 for 5 numbers in the lotto years ago. Never been so disappointed to win money.
