Don't use Win and your problem seems to be software.
Never had any trouble like that with my cards 6981 & 6982 used with Linux.

Hmm, not my preferred option to be honest! It would be grand if it was just a tv server but have loads of stuff on it, and is my backup machine for office, gis or cad work I need if my workstation is out of order temporarily!

Maybe dual booting might be an option. What would you recommend, if all that is needed is for the sat tuners? Can i boot off a USB without install? Would i still be able to record to my storage drive (it is separate from the drive windows is installed on but all my document folders etc. are on it)?

Cheers for your help by the way

    Interesting.

Looks like I might get through 2016 with my current GPU. It's also looking more and more like I'll go with polaris over pascal but who really knows.

Its like a role-reversed DirectX10 with the usual corporate (mis)behaviour going down. DX10 nearly killed AMD, and it seems clear from their obsessive future-proofing efforts that they had no intention of a repeat performance. And so we end up with anarchy; nVidia plays the long game, AMD plays the longer game, and nVidia ragequits on making actual GPUs (again) and goes back down their beloved old lies-malware-and-wood-screws route (again).

Remember as well when ATI's cards didn't support one of the shader model revisions when all Nvidia cards did - and the result was that people with mid to high end cards were suddenly unable to play some new titles! Think that was around 2007. Bit of a disaster. I had just jumped ship from an X800 to a 7600gt a very short time before.

The likes of HItman and Rise of Tomb Raider have DX12 now and they are both broken when DX12 is enabled lol

Hitman crashes after a few minutes of game play and Tomb Raider doesnt even start with DX12 enabled because of SLI

The question is, are they and their game engines built from the ground up to use DX12 or do they simply use some specific parts of it and tag it with the name.

Glacier 2(hitman) has some dx12 titles coming out, but has been in use for a few years now so was built with DX11 at least in mind.

Unity(Tomb raider) were talking about implementing DX12 support around mid to late last year. I find it unlikely that Tomb raider is based on engine version 5, which is their DX12 release. I'd say its a earlier version with DX12 features tacked onto it.

Anyone got any tips for cable management around a desk? I've been thinking about getting a UPS + new speakers but I kinda want to get cabling sorted first.
Here's how it looks right now, it's a terrible mess.

Slotted trunking like this works well, you can easily fix it to the bottom of the desk with short wood screws or a glue gun.

Can also be got at electrical wholesalers (Kellihers or Demesne) a lot cheaper than RS by the way.

Using basic trunking myself. Far cheaper and more readily available. I just popped some whole in the sides every 10 inches or so, and made for easy cable management.

Here is a quick pic. Not the best look, but completely invisible from the desk.

You can get a better look at how it appears in front of the desk here.

    +1

I have a pair of these and they are unreal. The quality of sound and materials is unbelievable for the price. I'd be happy with them if they were double the price!

Yes but is this nvidia and there wonderfully designed gamework with no asynchronous compute, But lets break it down Nvidia are unable to meet demands simply because their architecture is unable to work with.... DX12 and claiming its a driver issue in my opinion is the very down fall of nvidia 2016 and the rise of AMD whats comes up must come down Nvidia had their monopoly.

again most likely the horrendous drivers by nvidia, Should of gone to spec savers.

I got a good deal on a 32" monitor so I took it, but now I've discovered afterwards that it has Freesync. Does anyone here use it - would it be worth my while switching to an AMD Fury or similar or should I just stick with the 980ti?

I'd go to AMD, I think while currently, their a small bit behind which is ok, I think if you plan on playing DX12 games like true Dx12 none of the gameworks $h1t. Then yea I'd do it in heart beat how ever given the recent update about AMD's future I'd probably hold out till the next AMD GPU line up to come out. I get the distinct feeling we're in No mans land in terms of the GPU world.

hence why I'm just replacing my psu and waiting til I can make informed enough decision.

I get the feeling from his last couple of posts that JoyRider might be a wee bit disliking of NVIDIA, so a different opinion:

If you can get a 6870 or something really cheap, pick it up and give it a go. You can screw around with older games, turn Freesync on and off, see the difference, get a feel if you like it or not. If you decide you do, you can sell your 980 Ti (I actually have a friend who is thinking of one), and get a Fury or whatever.

Having used G-Sync myself, it's pretty nice. It's smoother than regular <60, but not as smooth as v-synced 60+, if that makes sense. If the former is 1 Smooth, and the latter is 2 Smooth, G-Sync <60 feels about 1.6 Smooth, ish.

Haven't you a ton of 270Xs Terror? Why not clip one (or two, I know your love for Crossfire ;) ) and see what you make of FreeSync

Well its not at what they make its who they are a company that anoys me, They are currently holding about 75% of the market and they sell gpu's I can't not respect that.

How ever, what they have done to the gmaing industry is utterly despicable, Batman, witcher, just cause 3 all great games, which have been runied because of there weird optimisation that people blame on the devlopers!

My problem is there monoply is so bad that there getting away with murder and they deserve a ass kicking.

BTW I really thought about buying a 980 ti.

Yes, I do have a few 270X's hanging about, but I would imagine that at 1440p, it's entirely pointless! I'd have to run at medium settings at best to get half decent performance, but I suppose it would be a good indicator as to how freesync works at lower framerates.
