Did they contact you about a potential role, or just contact you asking if you were interested in a role they have?

Just to add to this. I've been contacted through linkedin also, about job offers in IT. Now I've applied on other job sites for those type of jobs, but not linkedin. So there yesterday I got a mail to say I've been put on a short list, and the guy asked for my PPS number for garda vetting and social welfare purposes and I gave my details. The email address he used had the job sites domain name so I taught all was ok. What can I do to prevent anything coming from this?
