To echo career move C, when I injured my hip I was told I could run easy with treatment but as it turned out MK reckoned I tore my labrum doing this when a sustained period of rest would have sorted the situation out. Now I'm left with an issue while I know how to manage it, the only way it can be rectified is by surgery. As M said leave the stubbornness to one side and think of the bigger picture, look how long you were out with your curly toes. Now you don't want to be going down that path again. Rest up for a while, you are old after all!!

Thursday: did a 4 mile Nursing Home Special on a local route late last night as I was feeling sorry for myself all afternoon, after getting dental implants and wasn't in the mood to run. The wind chill numbed the other side of my gob so I was a right state when I got home.

Friday: another 4 mile nursing home special around the prom in Salthill this evening @ 9.01. Heading to Shannon later as I'm bringing the young lad to Stoke v Villa so no running tomorrow.

It's going to be another week of nursing home specials next week but that suits me as I'm away with work again.

I've been told that with the type of strain/stiffness I have that slow running is actually beneficial for recovery, so unless I notice it getting worse I'll keep at the slow, short easy stuff.

That's my kinda pace at the moment, PM me if you fancy some company around the pitches any evening.

    Enjoy the match tomorrow :)

Sat & Sun: had the young lad at the Stoke v Villa match on Saturday and didn't get back till 3am! Had a short turn around as I was heading off again on Sunday with work. No running.

Today: After a fairly long journey I arrived in Santiago, Chile via Heathrow and a stop over in Buenos Aires. Saw a pair of nuns in business class, tapping away on their iPads, they obviously weren't from the Poor Clares :)

Was fairly stiff after all the travelling so I decided to hit the hotel treadmill, turned straight around once I got inside the door of the gym as you'd a baked a fruit cake in there it was so hot.

Instead I got directions to a small local park (Parc Las Americans) and did a few loops of that interspersed with some stretching to get a 5 mile Nursing Home special done in baking heat. Glute niggle is been a really stubborn fecker to shift and I'm just going to have to take my time and be patient with it (not my forte!)

Today: didn't sleep great last night coz of the jet lag and a dicky stomach coz of some shot in the dark menu picks for dinner. My colleague was delayed 14 hours so I was on my own for dinner, and I picked a restaurant that looked reasonable. The waiter had about as much English as I have Spanish so I just pointed to so menu items that I thought sounded good and he nodded in agreement. Sorted so! Also asked for some bread and butter but some pink and green balls of dough arrived in a wooden box with a latch!! The bread rolls were so hard they could have easily been used at an ISIS stoning :)

Got out early this morning and decided to do some urban easy miles. Was nice and balmy but overcast, lovely pungent aromas of coffee wafting from little cafes together with the distinctive smell of dough been deep fried. Had to be careful as the pedestrian crossings were a bit of a free for all but I managed to get 4 nice easy miles done before work without be knocked down.

Had meetings all day, and last year when I was in LATAM I had the meeting greeting nailed down, when to kiss, to shake or to hug but I now need the advanced class in regional variants.

First meeting today and the lady puckered up for a cheek kiss so I did likewise, put on a full pout for extra effect, kissed one cheek and moved over to the other but she had already turned so I was left hanging mid air like a smacked trout. :) The man approached and I went to kiss him and he pulled away like if kicked him in the nuts and stuck his hand out for a shake! I think I'll have to just stick to the Bogger neutral "Howya" to stop making a tool of myself.

Got out after 6 with the temp showing 34*, there was a strong breeze so it was lovely. Headed up to the park again and got another 4 miles done. The last 2 miles were at 8.30 pace and were the most comfortable. Hopefully the niggle is easing out but I won't push it just yet.

    8 miles for the day.

Got another couple of easy runs done in Santiago (found a nice park set against a backdrop of the Andes) before heading on to San Jose in Costa Rica on Thursday.

I don't know why but I was expecting an idyllic setting on golden sands but San Jose isn't on the beach and it's far from idyllic, when you see the conditions some people live in it makes you grateful for what you have! Couldn't run around the hotel I was staying in because it wasn't safe with the traffic. I also badly sunburned my feet so I just spent the time chilling and stretching. I noticed on my last few runs that the vice grip like pain in my glute was easing out and so too was the pain in the hip and groin.

Got back late on Saturday night and had planned on doing a 8-10 mile run but Mother's Day and a head cold put paid to that. Didn't get a cold all winter and I go away for a few days to the heat and I end up with one!

Over in West Sussex for the next few days with work and although I'm all "hoteled out" the hotel (South Lodge Hotel) is nice with really good staff (the receptionist noticed I'd a cold and shortly after I checked in she sent up, unsolicited, boiling water with honey and fresh lemon, nice touch!) It's set in over 90 acres and I'm hoping to get a run in around the grounds tomorrow.

Tonight I'd to settle for the treadmill and I got 6k easy done on the treadmill with no pain from the glute at all, happy days! I even managed the last mile in solid sub 8, the first sub 8 mile in weeks. Hopefully that bitch of a niggle is gone for good!

Reading about all the boardsies racing exploits has me itching to get back into it but I'll take it handy for another few days yet.

    6k easy

Took the last two days as rest days as the cold was getting worse and I wanted to shake it.

Stayed in the Shard near London Bridge, last night and early this morning I got an hour easy done on the treadmill in the gym on the 51st floor. Nice views over London helped pass the time.

When it comes to the marathon, lately I've had more setbacks than Irish Water and I've been convinced to concentrate on the shorter distances for a while so that means I won't race a marathon in the next 6 months. (Might do a few for the craic though as part of a long run)

I've a few races targeted but I won't post them up yet as I've a very poor record of actually getting to the start line and the objective is more around getting the fun back and improving my times across all distances up to HM.

Now that the decision is made I'm looking forward to the plan, first target is my soft 5k PB of 19.3x

5k PB of 19.3x, were you walking that or what? If you fancy a smackdown(not smack on the arse!!) let me know. Still 1-0 to me. Trim doesn't count.

Good to see this C - I think you'll find plenty of stuff to keep you "challenged" and interested over the shorter stuff.

Also - ^^^^^^^ what AMK says

Arrived in Orlando on Saturday evening for a family holiday. The first thing we noticed when we got off the plane was the size of the wheelchairs, they were big enough to fit two people! It's my first time in Florida and I'm totally gobsmacked by the size of the people, they are massive. You'd need to see it, to believe it, the majority of the population, young and old are morbidly obese, it's actually scary! The amount of mobility scooters in Disneyland is incredible, my kids even noticed it. The yanks shouldn't be too worried about ISIS killing them, fats, salt and sugar are doing it instead :)

We are staying in a Disney resort hotel beside the Magic Kingdom and we all got wrist bands with a Mickey Mouse embossed on it when we checked in. What are these for" said herself dubiously. "Room access, park access, pay for meals and make payment in the resort shops Mam" replied the 20 stone Gastropod behind the counter. "Pay in the shops" the boss woman said brightening up visibly! "How does that work?" "Touch the band to the terminal" she said ever so politely, "touch Mickey to Mickey till the big Mickey turns green". I almost choked I was guffawing so hard, I hadn't heard a comment like that since Tang was trying it on down by the Royal canal last year :)

Grumpy auld bollix runs deep in my dna and I'm seriously underwhelmed by this Disney lark, not really something that floats my boat. The place is packed and I don't see too much magical about the whole thing.

The long flight had stiffened up the arse slightly so I only got a 3 mile Nursing Home Special around the hotel on Sunday to loosen it out.

Still only tipping along and got 4 miles easy done today around the hotel and over and back to the Magic Kingdom, threw in a few surges to try and get the body used to some faster stuff. Very hot and sticky out there today. Hoping to get more miles done for the rest of the week but I'll have to go with the family flow!

I decided to put my a secondary focus on my running for the few weeks we are on holidays and just get out when I could. While in Disney we were going from Theme Park to park, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Typhoon Lagoon so I only got a couple of easy miles done every second day. Threw in a few strides that had me puffin. (Fitness drops off fast!!)

Found out the hard way that I'm not built for roller coasters but the wave pool in Typhoon lagoon was cool, the waves were massive.

The first time we went into it the missus was standing beside me in her bikini and we got flattened by a giant wave, when she resurfaced her bikini top has fallen down. On reflection I should have adopted a more mature response to the situation: "put those flotation devices away there's enough in the pool already". Had to move quickly to dodge a smack!! Decided to be a bit of a lecherous Bogger and took up position beside a few young wans that looked like they might be susceptible to the same fate :)

The week in Disney flew by and being a grumpy auld bollix I complied a couple of mini rants:

    1. America lifts, the doors take an age to close, must be to accommodate the gargantuan natives, who move so slowly coz they are carrying more fat than an offal truck!
    2. Mobility scooters, if you're not disabled get up off your fat ass and walk! Sad state of affairs when you see more mobility scooters than baby strollers in a theme park.
    3. Queues and wait times, I asked how long the wait was at one ride, "140 minutes sir". "Feck that" I said, "I wouldn't have waited that long for my wife on our wedding day" and we headed off. "Have a magical day Sir". (See below)
    4. Insincere sincerity, after a while the forced politeness drives you baloobas. We got up early early one morning to go to Blizzard Beach water park, when we got there we were told the park was closed for maintenance, the kids started crying the missus was Bolshi and I started giving out like hell. Got nowhere and she finished with "have a magical day Sir", and a forced smile Steam started coming out my ears and I was tempted to make a toffee apple outta her with the young lads light sabre! Magical day me bollix!
    5. Tipping, mother of god be warned, this adds considerably to the cost of everything. I don't mind tipping for decent service but this place takes the piss! An auto tip of between 15-20% is added to your bill and there is another line for an additional gratuity that they highlight! I didn't add anything additional a few times and they looked like I'd just repossessed their house and the "have a magical day" disappeared. They also expect a tip for almost everything. A lad delivered a bill to my door and stood there waiting for a tip for delivering it FFS!
    6. All you can eat buffets, these just encourage binge eating. We saw examples of parents bringing huge plates laden with massive portions of junk to their young kids. Kids drinking pints of Coke at breakfast, desserts portions that would feed 4 in Ireland. It's actually disgusting and we tried to avoid them whenever we could. No wonder the people can hardly walk, obese is the new normal body shape. If someone skinny like PaulieYifter was here they'd probably quarantine him thinking he had some contagious disease :)
    7. American humour, they just don't get gentle piss pulling (or maybe I'm just crap at it)
    8. Roller coasters, just not for me, my daughter was dragging me on them and after the Everest Expedition one in the Animal Kingdom, I ended up ignominiously puking up in the bushes!

    Rave:

American clothing sizes, I'm a medium, a feckin medium I tell ya! I haven't been that size since my confirmation :)

We finished up in Disney on Saturday and floated off for another week holiday, running will probably be limited to a treadmill but not too concerned as I won't start a training plan till the first week in April.

    Have a magical day ya'll
