New Bike - Giant Escape 3

    Had a Giant escape MTB back in the day (1992) rigid forks but superb bike.
    It was nicked and to this day this makes me sad

    My wife had one of them for a couple of years doing a similar commute distance as you, rock solid and never any complaints with it. Not the lightest of bikes but strong and sturdy!

    Does look like a rock solid bike.

    You can't go wrong with Giant bikes. Frames well built and reliable.

    Components standard for that price range.

    Go for it ;)

    Giant are a great brand but do check others out. Quality of bikes nowadays is fantastic and competition is high

    I see Halfords have their own brand Carrera, any thoughts on these?

    I had a Giant Escape 3 for a few years, rode it into the ground and had a great time. Would recommend unless you're planning to longer expeditions on the road.

    When you say longer expeditions, how long are we talking about? If I did 50km on a Saturday how do you think it would hold up?

    The bike will hold up just fine, you however might be different :)

    Remember this type of bike is designed with commuter or leisurely cycling in mind. If you intend to do 50km regularly, I'd be looking at a lighter hybrid with thinner wheels 25-28mm.

    The bike would survive, it just wouldn't be the most comfortable bike for the job. Heavyish and very relaxed geometry.

    Caerra's are ok (my wife has one and although it gets little use is still running well after 7 years)

    Giants are better though

    Trek do good hybrids and have a wide range
