Shower pump with a mind of it own

    Hi,

I recently got the house re-plumbed, I have two showers that feed off the hot water tank and there is a pump beside the tank (in the hot press) which comes on when I turn on either of the showers. The problem is the pump is beginning to act up....the other morning the pump stayed running when I turned off the shower, it went off after a few minutes. yesterday it didn't start when I turned on the shower, after a bit of messing trying to get some flow it kicked in. This morning again it was reluctant to stop when I turned off the shower.
My main concern is really is if this is a fire hazard, could the pump overheat if it is running dry? any ideas what could be causing problem?

    Thanks

Did you get the pump installed new when you got the house re plumbed? How long ago was this? What is the make & model of the pump?
The main reason I ask is because the pump may be under warranty & any fiddling about you might do with it would void the warranty

It sounds like it could be a flow switch problem , not activating , then not switching off .
If not installed correctly ( via a surrey flange ) warranty could be void .
