    designing house at the minute.
two storey with a standard cut pitched A roof as I will want to convert this attic space in the future.

But I consulted some construction books and online material some of them are showing traditional cut roofs but with Struts criss-crossing across the attic space?
and some are showing attics with no struts and just large attic space which is what I want!

can anybody shed any light on this for me?

p.s. my assigned certifiers on holidays so didn't ask him yet.

I would be consulting a structural engineer, who can size the timbers according to loading if I were you.

Because the insertion of structural steel at ridge level or at purlin level can aid create the space you require. Some attics, my own included have horizontal ties at a much higher level than normal along with steel beams running from party wall to party wall in the storage space above my attic bedrooms.

It most definitely is a structural question.
