You couldnt make this up...how could anyone come up with this as a problem..We are getting too soft in this country....Or do youngsters these days really love their craft ales and are just waiting on one targeted to them?
An Irish brewery has defended itself against accusations it is cashing in on the 1916 Easter Rising amidst complaints its new beer is targeted at minors because of its name.

Bray-based Wicklow Wolf Brewing Company unveiled its latest brew 'Children of the Revolution' earlier this month ahead of the 1916 centenary, and said, at the time, it was a celebration of the “countrymen and women who made possible the Ireland we live in today.”

However there has been several complaints on Irish social media saying that the label 'Children of the Revolution' is inappropriate because "children will think it is for them".
Speaking to the Independent.ie, co-founder Quincey Fennelly said that the €3.95 beer’s title was “a play on the old song by T-Rex” and that it was in no way intended to attract minors to the product.

    More 1916 tackiness.

Tattoo Places will be offering 'Patrick Piercings' next at this rate.

Christ, imagine having it so easy that you'd go out of your way to waste your time talking ****e about this non issue. Those people need some actual problems in their life

"there has been several complaints on Irish social media" equals random whingers and we couldn't find anybody of significance for this story.

It's not that we're getting too soft as a country. It's more that the Indo has really low standards when deciding what is a real story these days.

Saw 1916 chocolate bars for sale in Guiney's for 2 euros, the wrapper? That's right - the proclamation.

Would a Patrick piercing be similar to a Prince Albert piercing?

Seconded. No actual comments provided either. Take a few loony moaners and get a quote from the brewery and hey presto you have a PC-gone-mad story to sell.

At €3.95 a bottle I doubt too many kids will be buying it. The Dutch Gold and various cheap Polish beers in Aldi will be more tasty affordable.

Just caught some morons on Joe Duffy complaining about it too. They had absolutley no inkling of what the phrase actually means and assumed because the word children is in the phrase it's aimed at children. Even when it was explained to them they didn't have the capacity to understand it.

I hear you can buy a meal for kids in McDonalds called a Happy Meal that will make them fat and feeling depressed .

    Enough said

Once upon a time, a child went into a pub and said "Can I have a bottle of Children of the Revolution please?".
    The Barman replies "No."

    Fin.

Mature adults of the revolution, it doesn't have the same impact.

It's true, the kids only drink if they think the brand is aimed at them. Nothing to do with cultural or societal pressures/upbringing.

Surely the real objection to the name should be that it might encourage people to occupy public buildings and declare a provisional government.

Have they read the Harry Potter books yet?

Sorry, stupid question. I mean have they watched the Harry Potter films yet? Those kids from Hogwarts were always sneaking off to the pub and getting pissed on butterbeer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,462 ✭✭✭✭WoollyRedHat

It would be different if they were actually showing kids drinking the stuff...Anyway at 3.95 children won't be bothered drinking the stuff, they don't get enough pocket money to support their drinking habits at those prices.
