Basically I have to work a week ahead for my job and seeing as you get paid for the week gone it'll be the 2nd week before I get paid. Will I get my dole payment during that time or will I have to cover myself till my first pay arrives?

You'll have to sign off the day you start work, you will have to tide yourself over until you get your first week's pay from your new job.

Otherwise you would be claiming while working which would get you into a lot of trouble.

You sign off the day you start working so you will have to cover yourself until the first payday. Thank your lucky stars you aren't being paid monthly in arrears.
