Patio door won't lock!

This is the 2nd time this has happened but this time it's worse because now I can't lock the door whereas before, I could close it from the outside. Now, this black leaver won't push down at all. I'm wondering can I fix it without calling someone out to fix it. It ain't even my house, it's my chicks rented house :(

Is there alittle button on the sliding door edge that hits against the frame when the door slides into it. Have alook around that. When that is pushed in, the black lever should be free to move.
Perhaps the door is not sliding quite far enough closed to allow this to function.

Try lifting the door slightly, at the lock end, by the large handle as you close it. The door may have dropped out of alignment with the lock receiver.
Had this problem due to worn runners/track.
