Proud of what Conor has achieved.

Well done to Nate, well deserved.

There are better grapplers in SBG than JK, but that really doesn't matter. Joi Jitsu and MMA are not the same thing, Gunni hasn't been able to bring his BJJ into the cage efectively yet and got embarrassed by Maia.

Jiu Jitsu for MMA is different than Jiu Jitsu for sport or Jiu Jitsu for no-gi/submission only grappling.

Maia is the best active mma grappler in the UFC imo, so while he did hammer Nelson I don't think it's a huge black mark on him.

That said we still don't really know where Conor's ground game is as he was essentially KO'd when he went for the takedown.

They could certainly do with a wrestler. Would never happen but if he could spend some time at Team Alpha Male it could really benefit him.

    Very poor 3/9

So much so I did change main event pick , not that I think it will happen or anything but feck it need points if it happens

    On Pick Em

Got the points but would swap them back for McGregor not becoming a panic wrestler :(

Out of interest, why TAM specifically?

I would have thought there are far better teams and wrestling coaches out there.

To be fair though the man has had 8 fights in the ufc so surely he shouldve been trying to shore up the holes in his game long before now. Shouldn't have taken so long to realise he needed to improve in certain aspects.

Was a little bit surprised he didn't throw in some leg kicks on Diaz along with the left hands - would've taken the pep out of his step

Well it's fair to say that no-one can say that the UFC is fixed after tonight.

You're talking out of your bollocks.

Do people think Conor would consider moving to one of the American gyms after this loss?

He has been fighting a lot over the past couple of years, would a change of location and a bit of time away from the octagon improve him?

He didn't show enough respect, trying too hard to end it early, especially by spinning kick, and paid the price.
The gloating from the mma haters in the Irish media, and there are plenty,is going to be hard to take.
If he bounces back he'll be OK but his options have shrunk massively,he's gonna be starving himself for a 145 defense at ufc200, no doubt.

My point of view is Nate was able to compete at WW and really only got out-wrestled in that division and he was getting lit up tonight. I dont feel overly strongly about it just that its not ridiculous.

Well it is a bit ridiculous as McGregor was fighting at probably 170 in the cage give or take, whereas Robbie would be at least 185-190 in the cage. Conor isn't the only one who can make weight cuts. If Robbie can survive getting tagged by Rory, another person much larger than Conor, he can survive Conor's. If Conor can't survive getting tagged by a 2 week notice Nate Diaz, he most certainly can't survive Lawler. MM is dominating FLW, why doesn't he just move up to BW? Why didn't Aldo ever move up to LW?

Then there's the issue of grappling with someone heavier than you.

The one question I have, about two years ago there was a so called Irish take over predicted, or even SBG take over predicted. While McGregor has been hugely successful, we havent seen any other SBG fighters kick on, is Coach Kavanagh the one who will be really damaged by this loss?

So you dont think that SBG as a gym and Ireland as a nation have been hugely successful in the UFC already?

Do you realise how many MMA gyms/clubs there are out there that have never had, and never will have fighters in the UFC?? Not to mention having a champion???

We are a tiny nation of 4 million people and we have one of only ten ufc world champions. In fact I would say per head of population we possibly have more UFC champions than any other nation on earth.

Thats pretty impressive in anyones book.

Well I was mostly thinking the Faber bromance they had. Would make a good rocky style montage. Like when Apollo trained Rocky to beat Clubber Lang.

Or the fact that TAM is stacked with lower weight wrestlers who have some of the highest takedown percentages in the UFC?

I never rated Kavanagh, not one bit. I feel he got lucky finding a gem like Conor. A bit like how Edmond Tarverdyan got lucky with Ronda.

Kavanaghs behavior throughout Conors reign has been embarrassing. Acting like his **** don't stink cos of his golden boy. Modesty is clearly not something he can display. Look at the other top rated coaches particularly on Twitter and compare them to this pretentious twat and you'll see the difference in class. I'm looking forward to Kavanagh indulging in some large quantities of humble pie in the coming weeks. Sorry about the rant on JK. May be a nice guy but yeah as above.

Gutted for Conor. He'll bounce back no doubt.

Haha that goes without saying no?

Having Faber and Conor together would be the cherry on top. Somehow I doubt Chad would jump at the opportunity though.

Maybe a bit ott and harsh, but I do feel the same about Kavanagh. He always came across very arrogant in a way almost trying to mimick Conor like a side kick. Doesn't suit the coach.

This was a terrible fight to take end of story.I get its a kind of a double edge sword in that he made serious money tonight but he took a stupid risk,Cerrone or Pettis at 55 would a been a far more logical choice than a monster LW like Diaz at 170,stupid idea.

I think there was a bit of arrogance about taking the fight. Especially as Dana said in the build up that Nate said he couldn't make 160 but could make 165, then Conor spat back to Dana and told him to make it 170.

All that said I wouldn't blame Conor, he is a very confident sort of person and after dropping Aldo in 13 seconds no-one could blame him for thinking he was invincible. You can't get anywhere in this game unless you think that way. But it should have been up to his backroom staff to check his confidence to make sure it wasn't turning into blind arrogance. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to have happened here.

But all is not lost, as Conor said himself post fight he came up two weght classes and it didn't work out. He learnt a lesson and will grow from this. Whoever fights him next will be facing a McGregor with something to prove, it'll make UFC200 all the more interesting.
