    It's not that hard to comprehend, it's just an awful ad;

Girl comes home to her parents house with her new boyfriend. Her boyfriend's name is Frank. Frank has never met the girls parents previously. When girl introduces Frank as her boyfriend, Frank uproariously mistakes his girlfriend's mother for her father. The girls mother is frosty and indignant, correcting poor Frank's mistake. Hilarity ensues.

    That's how you sell mortgages.

is that Leo Vradkar doing the voice over for the new dry cleaners ad where the person in the ad is trying to describe a gimp mast with ball gag he left in for dry cleaning? certainly sounds like him.

So an Irish lad talks about pewgeot.

French bird comes on & it's Purrrgeot.

Irish lad is having none of that. Back to pewgeot :pac:

I came onto this thread explicitly to vent at this ad. It drives me mad!
"Finance by GMBH" "GMBH no less!"
"check out our website" "oh i will, don't you worry!"

    It is absolutely awful

What I'd like to know is what accent is the fella aiming for? It's part scandi/Part D4/part tipp moved to Dublin trying to sound posh....

    Dreadful advert

No, the French voice pronounces it correctly, with no R whatsoever.

We have a very bad record here for pronouncing the names of foreign cars:

    Renn-alt
    Voaks-wagon
    Aw-dee

And I've got this strong suspicion that High-un-die might not be what the makers had in mind either.

I wasn't suggesting that the French girl was wrong :)

PS How can Toyota be "the best built car in the World" ?

Better than a lot of others, at least. Not sure about the best.
Mine's 30 years old and doesn't rattle or squeak, leak or fray wires. Attention to detail when it was built and not bodged by so-called 'mechanics' since.

Exactly. Good grade plastics is the main difference. I had to delve deep into the dash of a 94 starlet a few years ago ( to repair bodged wiring done by a so called mechanic) I couldn't believe how easily the various pieces of trim came apart and more importantly went back together again. The wiring and connectors when I made my way back to the original loom was top quality.

There's an ad for some hotel and spa in Castleknock, done by that deep voiced girl, that makes Absolutely No Sense Whatsoever.

Something about not lying awake at night worrying that you worked too hard.

That's all grand, but do you not think Bentley or Morgan or Aston Martin might have an edge on them?

In the UK you can't make a claim unless you can back it up. So Toyota couldn't use that tagline. It makes a mockery of advertising if you can just make any claim.

Morgan?? Seriously? Probably the worst built car in the world.... Fair enough on Bentley (at a stretch) or definitely A.M. ( slightly higher price bracket than any Toyota) but I'm sure most car drivers/buyers know the difference between these cars.

It's probably been mentioned already, 'Mary!!!!' and her offer to go with you to get your choppers fixed somewhere foreign.

Very seriously. Morgans are hand built to a superb standard.

So you think that an advert should be able to lie.

"People think that coal, oil and gas will be around forever. They realise this may not be the case".

Well they either believe one f**king thing or the other. Does anybody even read back the scripts of these mindnumbingly stupid adverts any more?

Back 20 odd years ago. MIT did a big study into car manufacturing techniques across manufacturers, and found that toyotas manufacturing system was the best in the world. They are synonymous with Just In Time production, (where you don't carry any buffer stock and only carry parts as you need them) having brought it to the car industry in the 70s, but like most things, they didn't invent it, just took it from the Japanese shipbuilding industry and made it better,
Toyota Ireland took that and went with it.
To be fair back then they were an awful way ahead of domestic American manufacturers in terms of productivity and not carrying inventory unless absolutely nespcessary. That doesn't have any bearing on how good the cars are, especially today.

That's a good ad I think. Well delivered by both voiceovers too.

    Granted, the app sounds silly.

It's a daft Ad and it's utterly inappropriate to broadcast at a time when kids are likely to hear it.

For what it's worth I agree. I really cant understand how it's allowed.

Bit of excessive PC there I think.

It's just a film reference - or something suitably randomly weird. Kids'll either not get it or have already googled far worse.

Although I think the ad is poor on every level, I reckon anybody who gets the reference is not going to be corrupted any further than they already have been.

The god-awful blackrock clinic A&E ad is back again! Where the matronly women extols the virtue of their wonderful A&E (that is only open during daytime hours so better make sure you only have an accident during these times).

Followed by their meaningless slogan “when your experience needs ours”. What marketing 'genius' came up with that one?

So we should start to hear the equally awful Mater A&E ad very soon so.
