Have you seen some of the systems for sale on adverts. there dusty and acent and asking near top dollar :pac:

your right on that one :pac: should I include how it performs on prime 95 and valley in screen shots?

As since I've had it AMD radeon drivers have come on leeps and bounds.

People pulling the piss on both sides in Adverts-land alright. Tons of plebs who've paid 2K for a machine in 2012 who think 10% off is competitive.

I don't know which case you have so I presumed it might be a Shinobi or something, and if it is I'd set your asking price ~E600-650 but be prepared to be haggled down. The CPU is in and around the i5 4460 and the GPU is near enough to a 270x or an overclocked 950, so it's not a bad machine by any means.

That Dell is the holy grail, OLED, 120hz, virtually no imput lag and 4k 30“... The 5k price tag is a bit of a problem though :(

I'm thinking 34" 21:9 for now as it's going to take at least 2 years until a more reasonably priced one comes out.

Find out the price of what it would take to get equivalent performance nowadays and knock 20-30% off that price because it's used. Actually, selling via adverts you should up the price a smidge as you're gonna be low-balled and offered old copies of the RTE Guide as a swap.

Clean it & write zeros to the drives if you're paranoid/safe.

You need to set stuff at significantly higher prices than you actually want to accept, as the offers have just gotten absurd. Offers I've gotten in the past few days for machines (all i5/i7, 270X/7970, SSD, etc)

    - PS4 with broken disc drive
    - A bicycle
    - 200 cash in hand
    - a 'gaming laptop' (integrated graphics)

Best one yet is I have an i7-4770k, 16GB, 980Ti Watercooled, 500GB SSD, etc, machine up for sale.

"Will you swap for an Xbox One?"

"How much cash would you add?"
    "It has a few games"
"Sorry, that's worth a few hundred euro, this PC is worth five times that."
"will add a turtle beach headset"

This is what you're up against. Be warned.

Im going to go a touch higher simply to let them feel like they get a good deal out of it, Now the fun part comes. :(

Copy and paste from your adverts page? :pac: I was checking out h440 rig last night really fine looking machine...

That's the thing though - That's not an exaggeration.

Not everything is like that, but it can get that bad. Hence the PC gear selling thread here.

    A bit? :pac:

Actually looked it up on YT, second comment down someone's being rather... uncharitable... about his "retarded" (yikes!) accent. Adored immediately points out that it wasn't "too" retarded considering the whiner had just subbed his channel despite this :D:P

Also... poor old Charlie... still being lambasted for his fiery hatred of nVidia despite it all being based on their tech screwups and unsavory business practices rather than any kind of illogical fanboi bias :o

Did you watch his video on direct x 12?

I was thinking of going to the green side, how ever that kinda solidified that maybe sticking with Red might be worth it looking at whats been happening.

Either way times in the gpu industry are getting very interesting.

    I did - also a great video.

I'm going to hold off until at least 2017 I think. I can see the roles switching between AMD and nVidia this time around, with nVidia launching some power hungry (in comparison) hot running cards. I can't really see them letting AMD away with beating them on performance.

I'll hang on to the R9-290 and hope they re-enable voltage overclocking. Hopefully it'll last until the dent, or should I say crater in the pocket from the Rift has been filled!

Why that much wattage? Had you gone for a 500/600w PSU you could've bumped up the specs in the cpu or gpu.

Bit confused by that myself but if you are expecting to throw a much better graphics card in there sometime in the future, it does make sense. Those temps are very very nice, should overclock very well!

I had originally ordered a XFX 750W (which I know is still way overkill for almost any non-SLI build anyway) - Order got cancelled due to stock issues. Spotted that this SuperFlower PSU was -15% on OCuK and "traded up" from a tier 2 to a tier 1 PSU for a difference of 15 quid on what I was already going to spend anyway.

I wanted a fully modular PSU, and something proper quality too. Hence I didn't mind going overkill. Bonus is it'll also probably be falling into it's 50% power usage bracket where it's most efficient anyway.

Yeah, the GTX 750 is just tiding me over until Polaris / Pascal arrive. I picked it up before christmas and stuck it in my old build with the very intention of moving it over once I could afford the new build and then saving for a proper GPU by summer time.

Also I was buying the MB/CPU around the time the Skylake non-k overclock bug/feature was found and embraced by Asrock - so I specifically didn't go for a better CPU because the 6400 is more than capable when overclocked.

I suppose it's still a work in progress, which is why it's confusing at the minute :D I'm not stupid enough to buy 850W to power a GPU which doesn't even need a PCI-E power cable :pac: Also those temps are on quiet mode!

thats not a bad idea and just wait for things to improove. :) might pick my self up a R9 290 some where.

any one got any recommendations for a place to buy a psu I was thinking of getting a gold 800 watts must be modular

Had the Nvidia Shield K1 for awhile now and while im happy with most of it the battery life really is abysmal. For a tablet thats made for gaming its actually shocking imo.

There a new version of android available for it today and ive just installed it,it does mention app and power optimisations so one can hope.

If it doesnt improve with software i would have to say it wasnt a great purchase. The screen is brilliant and its so snappy but the battery life really kills it. Shame as it clearly has the grunt and screen to compete with more expensive tabs but dam that battery is annoying.

Just won a 980, but its shipping from the states and I'm liable for whatever import duties. How much would I be looking at getting caught for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

I'd say less than €100 between 60-100 anyway, could be less I'm not sure, but you can't argue when you got it for free.

It's always bad if you bought from there for their cheaper prices and then you get stung and lose out on whatever savings you thought you were going to make.

    23% VAT + 4% Customs.

That said, if it's marked as Gift/Prize it might not incur that. Also if it's sent via the USPS who interface with An Post as opposed to a courier company like DHL, Fedex or UPS, you might escape customs. The couriers process customs in house and always charge whereas USPS/An Post process in the Customs Sorting centre in PortLaoise which is over capacity so a percentage of packages go through unmolested.

Lets say its a good one, $700
    Shipping $50

    688.99 Euro * 0.27
    = €186
    + €7 Handling

Total comes to €193 approx to the postie.

That would be 980Ti prices though? If he won a regular GTX980 it should be far less unless it's one of the ridiculous OTT bling versions.

Lovely PSU challenge master. Have the Leadex Gold 650 watt myself, she's a beaut. They're top quality PSUs.

It's an EVGA GTX 980 SC, so in and around €520. Will be selling it as soon as I get it,hopefully.

I just grabbed a windforce unit on NCIX as a sample price :pac:

It will be most likely marked as a prize, so just make sure that the shipper does so.

In the event you are fronted with a bill, send a copy of your winning confirmation to the courier company. You are not liable for VAT as you did not purchase the item. You are obviously liable to shipping for obvious reasons.

Hopefully as someone mentioned above it ships via USPS, which then gets transfered to An Post. Nevermind the capacity issues An Post have, for 15 years now, they have had roughly the same process. From ten cages of parcels one gets picked at random and VAT calculated and charged.

And I think it is TNT(or DHL, always forget), who have standing orders with their drivers to never return with parcels. So they either wave charges or leave it off with a neighbour to sign for it. Although not sure if its still the same, but a relative worked for them and told about it, so when I was getting orders from them at the door I'd just refuse the charge and eventually they would hand it over :)

Figured I'd drop a link here, rather then start a new thread.

I'm toying with getting an audio upgrade for the PC with this years bonus. A new headset(possible modmic thing is required) and maybe a DAC/AMp if required?

The DAC/Amp **** really confuses me. Cant work out if I need one, or if my onboard sound would be enough. I don't want to waste money on this. I'm not an audiophile, so I've no idea if I'll actually note the gains, but it seems such a universal thing that surely I'll be impressed.

Last post on the page has what I've narrowed down to. Three headsets. The Sennheiser is a new entry, and there because its a gaming setup from them, but the other two are tumbling in price. I know ED.E posted in the thread, but I guess im still not sure on where I need to go with this. Keep getting recommended /r/headphones but finding it pretty useless, with no responses.

Basically headphones are the most important, no DAC can make up for crap cans. Onboard audio + Good cans > DAC + Crap cans.

When you get to the point of high impedance studio cans then a DAC starts making sense, but the ROI on a DAC at that point is much lower than the headphones.

If my earphones scored a 50 my Beyers would score an 80 and them + DAC would be an 85. (€30, €100, €100+€100).

Have to say I don't normally struggle with PC upgrades or parts, but this is one of the most difficult I've ever come across. There is a mountain of conflicting information coming at me from all quarters.

I guess I'm wondering how would I "know" that I'd benefit from a soundcard, or a DAC/AMP, after getting the headphones. I'm kinda hoping I'll get that blown away **** immediately. Worried I could sit there for a year thinking "this is no different" and not realising I need something else.

Do soundcards even come into the equation now>? I see recommended soundcards for like 30-40 euro. That looks like a cheap shot in the arm, wondering if it would even bring benefits to my current Siberia V2.

The headsets definitely seem the most important part. I just want to try get a clear picture on where I'm going with this, and what I'll need to buy to get the "wow" factor.

EDIT* OK kinda understanding the need for DAC/AMP etc.
The DT990's run high OHMs, so I'd need to grab a DAC/Amp for those.
The Sennheiser GAME ONE run at 50OHMs, so my motherboard onboard should run them fine.
The ATH MX50's I've read further stuff about them and they are a bit hit and miss.

So have narrowed it down further. Sennheiser GAME ONE's appear to be winning mildly, as they are essentially 598's which I've actually tried before from a friend and was genuinely impressed.
