Are you guys using the revolut instead of an Irish card? I have an English card with enough money on it. That should be accepted?

Cheers for the quick reply :)

So just so I can get this straight, you added the address pal address to your paypal ann also added the revolut card to your paypal? Added the money to paypay through the card and then paid with paypal?

Sorry if that sounds very confusing!!

I just tried to pay directly with the Revolut card and it rejected as it was looking for the mastercard 3d verification.

I dont think on the samsung uk site it will let you use and irish card. it asks for a billing address and it will only let you click uk as country

How will the cases work for the Edge?

Will the phone be more exposed?

I can't stand the concept of the 'Edge'. An unprotectable corner on a screen for no purpose other than an advertising gimmick. I currently have a two year old Galaxy Note 3 in a UAG case. A great setup - still almost as good as new. I'm due an upgrade, but there is nothing on the market worth upgrading to, due to the current trend of style over substance. No Note 5 available. No Galaxy S6 Plus without 'Edge'. Dont get me started on double digit megapixels on a camera-phone.

You can only add a card to an irish address on paypal though? the samsung site says they can only process uk cards. Does paypal location not matter?

But it was just cheaper to put the money onto paypal through the revolut card because the exchange rate was better?

Cant fit the address pal onto the two lines :) I can get the parcel wizard one to fit though.

It does (debatable) until it gets scratched. I do a physical job. Unprotected screens are a non-runner on a device costing 3/4's of a grand.

The Note 5 got no release on Ireland. There's no reason to believe the the Note
6 will be any different. Even if it does, will it have the fukking Edge?

All you need is common sense. I insure all my phones. You can still get cases, even a flip case if you're paranoid.

There was no Note release because the edge+ was pushed. There won't be an edge+ this year, but I'd still expect the Note. Note 5 had a flat screen.

Did you end up paying with your English card? Did you get it delivered to one of the parcel motel/wizard?

What is the best way to buy this if I am buying with a credit card and want to get the GearVR?

Sign up for revolut and andresspal and then buy directly from Samsung uk using paypal with the new card added. Every order with them gets the gear VR for free.

However, that being said. if you mainly want the gear vr and are not borther about sim free. You can buy the phone pre-pay here for around 749 and get the gear vr for 49 from Vodafone. They appear to be selling them for half price for all. that works out around the same price as buying it sim free from the UK.

How does revolut work? What does it do exactly? I might skip the Gear VR then since I plan on buying a Vive for VR. Is the SIM lock bad? It's quite easy to make it SIM free right? And it wont have branding on it? If I buy from Three for example

You don't think it matters that the card billing address is in rep of Ireland on PayPal Thor?

Also, is every preorder not meant to get a GearVR? I thought that's what Samsung said? Three are out of stock apparently

Revolut is similar to paypal, but instead you get a card number from them to use anywhere. The have zero commission, and solid exchange rates. You if your buyering sterling, it's a better choice. In this case, it's the only choice, as Samsung UK won't accept non UK cards, and thankfully the Revolut card is UK registered.

It is easy to sim free phones, but I meant more, buy from the network you were going to use it. It should cost more than 20-30 euro to sim free a phone.

The sim free phone won't have branding, but the pre-pay phone will have branding. It is possible to flash non-branded firmware on the pre-pay phone, for a completely bloat-free experience (no harm will come to your device)/

If your not comfortable flashing the device, and really want a non-branded device, the buying sim free is the only way to go.

Honestly, I'm not sure, I have seen some folks being able to buy it using the revolut card and through paypal.

Maybe someone who has actually done it can post regarding this.

When I say branding, I mean will it say Three on my S7 or what? What sort of branding is on the phone?

Also what is the story with carphone warehouse? On their preorder page to the right it says a free gearVR with every preorder but at the bottom of the page it has a image saying half price gear vr with every preorder.

Indeed. That was what they announced, but not what happened.

There was some word that perhaps once you get your phone, you can register with Samsung and they will send you the gear vr.

My S6 Edge+ has 3 splash screen, and a few 3 apps (think they're all removable). It came sim unlocked.

Regarding sim unlocking, I have purchased from 3 in Newry in the past as well, and the guys in the shop knew I was taking it back down to Dublin with me. They said to just call 3 if it was sim locked and they would unlock it. Turns out it wasn't locked anyway.

So maybe I should contact samsung support to ask about registering with Samsung for the GearVR? Seems like a mess of a preorder situation

Oh yeah. The really botched it.

Carphone warehouse are only doing bill pay for the launch, so didn't matter if prepay would get them, as they aren't doing it.

They never have sim free phones at launch. At least the they didn't get S6 sim free devices until 6 months after it launched.

I'm pretty sure that anyone pre-ordering an S7 or S7 Edge will end up with a gear vr somehow. Samsung really don't want the bad press an launch if a ton of people pre-ordering their phones don't get something they promised on stage.

I asked for a comment directly from Samsung regarding the free gear vr offer and this is what I they said.

“The Samsung Gear VR pre-order offer is available via Carphone Warehouse and Three. Customers who pre-order the new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge devices from Carphone Warehouse or Three will be entitled to receive a Samsung Gear VR headset with their new Galaxy S7 device. Terms and Conditions apply and are available from the relevant seller of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge devices.”

So, things don't look good as these retailers applied their own terms and conditions to the deal. However, it might not be their fault. If they only get a small supply of gear vr units, and have a lot more pre-orders. They can hardly be blamed.

In short. Who knows what's really going on behind the scenes.

Haha ****ing hell. Well I'm selling my Nexus 6P for 450. Only got it in November but the thing is so big and slippy (That sounds bad), and I really don't want to break it and not make any money on it. Thing is always slipping out of my pants when I get out of the car.

S7 Edge with the official Samsung case seems the way to go. But I think I will only put it in the case when I'm leaving the house. The thing seems to nice to lock away in a case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,576 ✭✭✭digitaldr

Apparently the S7 and S7 lock to the carrier of the first SIM inserted (if not bought SIM free) Not sure if this applies outside the USA or what the implications would be if it did.

Linked my revolut card to my paypal, was charged the small fee and the 4 digest code appeared on the revolut transaction history, now I'm not given the option to enter the pin to verify the card.

Just keeps saying something went wrong, please try again.

So much hassle to buy a phone
