That would be all well and good if he offered something in the final third. Id be inclined to play him in a more central role because I cant for the life of me see him making the grade as a winger.

Absolutely, I was surprised to see him start. I think he's been guilty of making really dreadful decisions on the ball recently in the final third, particularly the amount of times he's failed to release the ball in time, or at all.

But his selection worked perfectly last night, in terms of the team's tactics. I can't see him as a centre-mid in the near future, to be honest.

Plenty of times we squared the ball in and around the penalty spot (mainly Ozil) and either it was Ox or Ramsey on the end of it who have little or no composure on front of goal, or else there was nobody there on the end of it. As you said we need a striker that has that nack of been in the right place at the right time but the manager just wont go out and get that sort of player??

We need a Muller or Harry Kane type player that the ball always seems to fall to and we've needed that type of player since RvP left.

Been saying it for ages, Ramsey is the most overrated player at arsenal.

    Passing terrible.
    Shooting terrible.
    Positional discipline terrible.

Yeah sure he runs around and puts the effort in but as someone said so did Robbie savage in his day.

6 good months is all he has done at arsenal.

Too many average players at arsenal.

I find it baffling that some fans can keep on accepting this mediocracy at the club. I know the manager is well capable at the highest level but he just wont bring in the quality of players he once had at his disposal. This Arsenal side are a shadow of the team we once where. Not too long ago we were one of the most feared teams in world football. Lehmann, Campbell, Vieira, Silva, Henry. Look at that for a spine in your team. You looked around the dressing room and 1-11 every player was a winner, a leader. Those days are long gone.

Mario Gomez went to Fiorentina for around 15 million euros a few years back. 113 goals in 170 games for Bayern Munich. He would of been a superb signing for us.

It's this sensationalism that really gets to me. I'll do a couple of comparisons to Santi here, since people seem to think that Ramsey is so much worse than him.

Passing terrible? 86% accuracy isn't terrible, sorry. (Santi at 90% is amazing)
Shooting terrible? He has more shots, and more accurate shots than Santi. I'm sure everyone can remember that Santi never gets forward, and the few times he has had a shot from distance this season, he's been absolutely woeful.
Positional discipline terrible? Not only does he get into the box more, have more shots than Santi, and shoot more accurately than Santi, he also tackles more and intercepts more (ie does more attacking and defensive work in general).

I know they are different types of player, but they're the closest we have to going for the same position in midfield. Santi being injured makes it a moot point, but I really don't know what other option we have right now.

In any case, it will be great to see Jack back in a couple of weeks (hopefully).

I've been off work on long term leave recently (ended up with diabetes, the bitch) so had plenty of time to watch Arsenal DVDs. The review of the Invincibles season was both brilliant and sad to watch. I know they were a once in a generation team but we really are so far removed from them its hard to believe. Pace, power, height, strength, fear. All that is gone with the current XI. Its sad to see.

I don't know about anyone else but this makes me feel a bit better about last night at least!

No reason we can't be beating the Barcelona's of the world winning the premier league and finally getting that CL.

Well, Barcelona's players would be one reason.

I really couldn't believe how Giroud thought Walcott would go that way... the other thing I hate about him is the flicks, they'll work once in a while...feckin no point in trying them against a team like Barca who hound you in packs.

We lost to two goals from the actual best player ever to play the game.

    Just worth keeping in mind.

Also, whoever has the team widely believed to be the best ever assembled anywhere in the world will probably...you've guessed it...win the match.

When you push the whole team forward and get outnumbered on the break and when you do a stupid ass sloppy ****ing tackle to give away a peno It really doesn't matter If It's Messi or Francis Jeffers tapping It into the net and taking the peno.

You'd swear Messi just took the ball around everyone and scored screamers that nobody else could do. The difference last night doesn't just come down to Messi.

Yeah you're right, not sure why we even tried last night should have just conceded and saved our energy for UTD. Although they are one of the most decorated teams In the history of football so I mean do we even stand a chance against them?

    Ah come on now.

We both know Jeffers would never have banged those chances in.

    :D

Considering your expectations, it might actually be worth heading off and supporting Barca for a while.

Well, I say "support", but you know what I mean.

Edit: Sorry Ken, that was a bit much from me. Emotions runnings high at the minute.

Haha It's ok don't pull any punches. I'm just saying I don't like the low expectations of our team that many of our supporters have.

Please return with this dose of sarcasm when we next lose to a team in the bottom half of the league :D

My expectation is a league and cup double. If you think thats low then more power to you

Ah come'on Donie, have to agree with Bob here...It wasn't Messi's brilliance that Barca scored two...It was our Feckin stupidity which we have seen numerous times before...I thought we did well in the 1st half bar scoring and in the 2nd half when we had a decent spell our defence had a brain fart as usual...

I think that is every Arsenal fans expectation. But when you haven't won a league title for over a decade and the manager keeps on with the same policy it is only fair to question and criticise. I am more annoyed with fans who still have faith in the mediocre players that are at the club, of course we cant have world class players throughout the whole squad but I am talking about refusing to bring players in of better quality because you still think a certain player will step up to the mark even after years of inconsistent performances.

Top 4 and qualify for Champs Lge then to be knocked out in the last 16. This current cycle at the club is going on for years. Do we even have any ambition of winning the competition? Its tiresome now. Great to win FA Cups the last 2 seasons but I feel that is merely papering over the cracks.

It was just really bad timing. I think we were still a year or so short of the 'financial shackles' being removed, and we were still avoiding outlay during transfer windows.

I think Giroud is a good squad player but no way should he be the main man. Wele in truth isnt a whole lot better, bit more athletic but not exactly a finisher eitehr. That said his winner v Leicester seems to have gave him a lift.

Overall, i think the general criticism of Arsenal is way OTT when you consider that we are not alone in the club of teams who have been outclassed by this phenomenal side over the past two years.

Im not sure what Chamberlain can offer us any more to be honest although Ramsey while showing excellent drive and stamina is guilty too of stupid flicks.

Take Ozil in possession for example. Very hard to get him off the ball and every pass is so purposeful. Fact is alot of groundless noise about these young 'Great British' players. They are miles behind the Ozils and Iniestas of this world because they are more interested in grandstanding nonsense with the ball then making the right pass.

I was thinking the exact same thing watching the game last night but I don't think its an English player thing. There were plenty of players guilty of not playing the correct pass at the right time.

They have all been dud's so far, most of all so disappointed with Walcott...we might as well have played with 10 men last night. May be It's just me but I think we just got this batch of Lame lambs instead of Bull dogs...

Couldn't give a damn about last night's result because as i've said all along we are never strong enough to win the CL.

I am beginning to feel that we won't win the league either. We are firing far too many blanks and also gifting goals to the opposition. I just don't believe we have the mentality to get enough points from so many difficult upcoming games. We may get the odd result but we're not consistent enough. You have to perform well for the entire 90 minutes and we seem to switch off at times in our games and it costs us. Not scoring in 5 of our last 8 games is not going to win us anything either.
