Was having a conversation with two single friends the weekend ,
They where arguing over where is the best bar to take a girl on a first date in Dublin city,
One reckoned the Shelbourne cause its classy and your not likely to bump into a gang of mates ,The other reckoned any normal down to earth pub in the city as you wouldn't seem like a posh twat, for example he said anywhere on dame lane,

So what do the good folk of afterhours think ?
This should be funny : )

God a bar for a first date would be an awful idea.
I don't think I've ever had a first date sober. If I show up tipsy the last thing he should do is take me for more.

Bar? What ever happened to a good meal in a restaurant?

Buy 2 bottles of Buckie and hit the local park for some shifting.

I like a pub for a first date. It's more casual, laid back. Bit relaxing. And it's perfectly fine to get drunk if your date is in the pubs. I've learned the hard way that that's frowned upon in the cinema.

Not really an option in the modern Tinder world where you could have 2 dates per week, can't be shelling out that kind of money twice a week!

Decent bar with good range of drinks and good music...and poorly lit, obviously.

Met my fiancee in Dakota for our first date... I like it because there are no screens so I won't get distracted with any sports that may be on! Also there is a good atmosphere there without being over the top posh! The Shelbourne sounds like an awful idea.....

Depends on the woman. There is no right or wrong first date outside extreme examples, if ye are into each other the night will seem better than it is anyway.
It's just a platform for ye to get to know one another.

The Woolshed... If your date is boring then at least you have tonnes of sport in the background

Although if he insists, then a cocktail bar like peruke and periwig where I can get cocktails with popping candy!

Don't think I've ever had a first date in a bar. What's wrong with a walk in the park, a visit to a nice museum or a date at the pictures?

A pub is a great idea for a first date because it's nice and casual. Don't bring the girl to the Shelbourne :)

You will probably have an idea of the types of places she would like. The Long Hall is very nice.
Pmacs is great. The No Name bar and Hogans.
I love Frank Ryans and Dice Bar but I'm not sure many other women do.

One thing to keep in mind is the time and the day. There is nothing as bad as standing in a crowded pub on the first date.

The Shelbourne? I'd say you must have dropped your monocle scoffing at the suggestions so far

Well the cinema doesn't allow for getting to know each other. First dates are all about seeing if there is a connection. Sitting down with each other and having a chat is a pretty good way of doing this.

Cinema date is a weird one. You sit beside someone you don't know for almost 2 hours in silence.

Better than shouting and roaring in a pub downing jagerbombs anyway.

I disagree. Depends on the venue of course but at least you actually get to know each other in a pub.

The cinema date is an awful idea unless you're going for a drink or something after. At the very least you can talk about the film! Though it still seems weird as a first date.

The cinema is great for a second or thid date, when you're just getting to that 'wanting to wear the face of each other'. Go see a crap movie and have the cinema to yourselves!!

What about two people sitting beside an open fire in a lovely little pub? One that sold Tennants :) Having a chat and getting to know each other.

The Mezz - A fantastic bar not in the normal realm of things - problem is it doesnt kick off till about 2 am but there are some of the greatest bands you will find in there - If you can get in there round 11 and keep her interested long enough for the main band to start then you will have a great night - Dont be put off by the look of the crowd - or bar staff for that matter :D

The key here is to wait - the mezz looks like its about to close then goes haywire!

A chocolate bar? Or a belt of an iron bar? I suppose if you want her to remember you, go with the second one.
