I was assuming it would be pay at the gate like the Walsh Cup.

Yep.

Just remembered about the the same fixture last year at PP. I got there just before throw in & had no problem getting a seat in the stand. It was down at the golf course end of the stand, but t'was a seat none the less and there were loads of empty ones around me during the game. It's sad really, how small the crowds for the hurlers are. :(

Anyone got a steer on whether I'd need to book tix in advance for the Dubs game in Parnell Pk this Sat vs Galway?

Or should there be a few on the gate?

Thanks in advance!
Its €15 on the day or €10 beforehand. I know which one I'd be choosing if I was going...

I think the Dublin hurlers are a different animal when playing in Parnell Park. Small tight pitch really suits them. But when they go bigger grounds they found out. A lot of a larger area to close down players.

Parnell definitely suits them better. Unbeaten there in something like six years if I am not mistaken. Unfortunately the Galway match is the only Parnell game in league as the other home game will be in front of 2,306 people against Cork before a few more thousand straggle in to see the footballers. Why they have a double header in CP against one of the worst supported counties in the country is a fkn mystery to me, but there you go ....

Crowds are decent enough ProudDub when they are playing division One teams. A big crowd in Parnell creates a much better atmosphere and seems to lift them more than playing in front of a 90% empty Croke Park before the footballers.

I know that they were supposed to be discussing the jersey at a meeting last night. It seems very odd that nothing has been said about it by them this morning...

Did the meeting actually go ahead? I was in Parnell Park last night and it didn't seem like there was a meeting on, it was rather quiet.

A couple of hours ago, one of the Dublin fan site tweeted that the DCB had signed a new 3 year deal with O'Neills. Haven't seen any official announcement or confirmation of it, but is that something they would officially announce?

It's official, http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/dubs-turn-down-better-deals-to-stay-with-oneills-34460157.html

Well now that's sorted ... if I could only get me hands on a decent 3/4 length rain jacket instead of that microfibre one that O'Neills are currently pushing I'd be delighted

Ha ha ha...good luck with that. My four euro poncho from Dealtz, is more water proof than that yoke.

Am glad they are staying with them though. Would the media $hit storm have been it worth it, if they switched?

I'd love to see the Dubs have our own shop, some where in town....selling all things Dublin related. Kerry have one in Killarney & don't Kildare have one too, in that big shopping centre in Newbridge, I forget what it's called.

Whatever about locals buying their gear there, there are thousands of tourists knocking around town every day, all looking for souvenirs of Dublin & Ireland to bring home. I doubt if any of them even know of the existence of the Dubs. They would, if we had our own shop !

Tourists, especially Americans, love good quality clothes associated with place they visit. I have Barcelona jersey, Yankees tee shirt and hat, and Roma hat bought because they are good quality and are emblematic of the cities they are in that I visited.

As it is, a lot of tourists here buy absolute cr@p from certain shops with shamrocks and stuff on them. Dublin is huge destination and huge brand name and Dublin GAA should be marketing itself same way as US professional and college teams do. Doesn't matter whether they know anything about the teams!

Only sport here that taps into tourist market judging by what you see people wearing that I can see is IRFU.

Agree 100%. My niece was in the States a couple of weeks ago. She brought back Seattle Seahawks & New York Knicks stuff for her boyfriend, dad and brother. They have zero interest in either of those teams, but they love that kind of sports related stuff. Fellah's usually do. I doubt if tourists visiting Dublin - and their friends and family back home - are any different.

If people don't want to splurge big bucks on a jersey or sweatshirt, there are always branded coffee cups, keyrings and what not. O'Carrolls Gift shops make out like bandits selling that kind of stuff. It would be great to see some of that tourist dosh going into the pockets of Dublin GAA. Broke n'all as we are. :D

We could buy the Kilkenny minor hurlers and Kerry minor footballers as sort of farm teams similar to baseball franchises. That would go down really well :)

Indeed it would. The marketing opportunities are endless.

We could sell:

The Philly McMahon Blow up Doll, the perfect thing to have in your house to deter burglars.
Diarmuid Connolly's 12 disc DVD set of How To Win Friends And Influence People.
The remake of The Quiet Man, starting Stephen Cluxton.
Come Fly With Me, Instructional flying videos by Jim Gavin.
Lost in Translation - The Definitive Guide to Understanding Kerry Peoples Unadulterated Bull$hit by Everyone Else On The Planet.
Langers By Name, Langers By Nature - The Official Commemorative Book of the '83 Replay - by Barney Rock.

Like I said, endless. :D

There is something in this, I have various team branded baseballs and ice hockey pucks, even a NY rangers goalie helmet also have some aussie rules bits and pieces. I know its not what was suggested but there is a good range of gear in the O Neills shop in walkinstown. It wouldn't take a huge amount more to fill a small store. Although the Leinster shop was taken over by lifestyle after been run by a small sports outlet from blackrock I think, so maybe its a hassle to take it to another level without the know how.

I've been involved in setting up a gift shop in a high traffic touristy area, from start to finish. From acquiring the premises, fitting it out, getting in stock, hiring staff, stock control programs, security...the whole shebang...it's a lot of work. It's definitely a project that you need people who know what they are doing, if you want it to be successful. But Dublin GAA is such a massive entity and has so many people involved, from all walks of life. It shouldn't be that hard to get access to the appropriate professional expertise and, perhaps even a good deal on a premises.

The Celtic Store in Jervis is a great example of what could be set-up.

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057116010&page=116

Nothing spectacular but does the job, it sells the full range of NB merchandise, own name merchandise, DVD's, mugs, books, calendars etc.

Well that was a good (if giblet freezing) day at the office in Fortress Parnell. Even if the Killester Supervalu didn't have any of those chocolate donuts with the jelly tots on top. The bastards !

Great heart and fight and spirit shown tonight. Rushe, Gough, McMorrow and Treacy were the stand outs for me.

What's the jackanory with Canning going off? Was he injured or just crap? That pt he scored in the first half was incredible 'tho. Worth the admission price alone.

Great win in Parnell. I will be honest I am not only shocked athe victory but the manner of it. Done without much worry. It was over with 20 min to go! Would love to see the Dublin hurlers play like their "Parnell form" in croke park.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Work rate wasn't good enough from Galway. We beat them everywhere.

Back six were very good. Thought we worked the ball (despite hearing ****e talk to the contrary in the crowd) very well at times in the second half. Couple of really nice scores came from it.

I dunno wathching it on the telly our puck outs are still suss.. our handling is still suss...and that was the disjointed prima donna galway that showed up. Good spirit and application though

Not an entirely unpredictable recovery. A few years ago they had ar3es handed them on a plate by Waterford in Waterford and then hammered Tipp in Parnell the week afterwards.

Much better but I agree with Bambi, some of the short puckouts were lucky not to be turned over. Rushe's MOTM was mainly based on his winning 50/50 ball inside the Dublin 40 from puckouts and short passes! That will continue to be recipe for disaster, as it was in Thurles.

Huge positive is that when low ball is played into space to inside forwards they lapped it up, even on a heavy pitch. Trollier is threatening to become a really dangerous top class forward. I also like Seanie McGrath the more I see him. Just what Dublin need; a big aggressive skilful forward who takes no sh1te from sneaky backs - no names mentioned :-)

Watched the Cork game later and they are not good so Dublin need to compound their misery and potentially secure Div I hurling in a few weeks time.

Apparently he wasn't well before the match and I suppose wasn't really fit to continue. He probably shouldn't have started at all really if he wasn't feeling too great.

Right you are. He wasn't really in the game at all, bar that great point and the few frees.

Anyone see the big red Expressway bus parked out side PP? T'was the Galway supporters bus. Tenner a head, leaves from Eyre Sq, picks up at 5 towns along the way & drops you right outside the ground. Smashing value. It's a shame there's nowt like that for our away league games in the big ball. I know FODH do them, for the hurling games, but I'm not aware of them for the footballers. Odd that !
